Job Description
Military Deli & Bakery Services (MDBS) has been proudly serving military families since 1996, providing fresh, high-quality deli and bakery products at U.S. Military commissary stores across the country. As the largest government contractor for deli and bakery services in military commissaries, MDBS operates 103 locations nationwide and is dedicated to supporting the unique needs of military communities. Their commitment to quality, service, and community has established them as a trusted partner in delivering essential food products that meet stringent government and military standards. The company prides itself on a strong mission-driven culture that values teamwork, integrity, and excellence in every aspect of their operation. MDBS stands out not only because of its scale but due to its focus on maintaining the highest quality in product offerings and customer service tailored to the military environment. This creates a meaningful and impactful work environment for its employees, allowing them to contribute in a significant way to the welfare of military families.
The role of the Deli Bakery District Manager is a key leadership position overseeing 5 to 7 commissary stores in the Los Angeles area. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead multi-unit operations within a vital segment of military retail food service. The district manager will operate from a home office with extensive travel within the Los Angeles region, primarily by car with occasional flights to military bases. A company vehicle and all necessary office equipment are provided to help manage and grow the district's performance. The position demands a hands-on, proactive leader capable of managing operational excellence, driving sales growth, and developing strong teams across multiple sites. A significant portion of the job involves frequent visits to stores to ensure compliance with military regulations, quality standards, safety, and customer satisfaction. Additionally, the district manager is responsible for coaching and training local managers, optimizing labor costs, and fostering a positive work environment with low turnover. Travel related to supervising these operations will be about 50% of the time, including overnight stays. The compensation package is competitive and includes a quarterly bonus incentive plan, paid vacation, health benefits, and a 401(k) plan with company match, among other perks. This is an excellent career opportunity for a dynamic professional who is passionate about food service operations, team leadership, and serving military communities. Ideal candidates will reside in Los Angeles, hold the relevant experience, and demonstrate a commitment to operational success and customer service.
