Job Description

Westport Properties, Inc., operating under the brand US Storage Centers, is a well-established company founded in 1985 that specializes in owning, operating, and managing a diverse portfolio of self-storage, multifamily, and industrial properties across the United States. With over 17 million square feet of self-storage space and assets exceeding $3 billion, Westport Properties has distinguished itself as a fully integrated operator. The company manages properties not only under its own US Storage Centers brand but also provides third-party management services. Employing over 600 people nationwide, Westport Properties is recognized for its commitment to operational excellence, community involvement, and innovative property management solutions. The company also demonstrates strong corporate social responsibility through partnerships with non-profits like Kure-It and Charity Storage, which raise funds for cancer research and local charities, respectively. This culture of community involvement is a testament to the company’s values and commitment beyond business operations.

The role of District Manager at US Storage Centers is a dynamic leadership position responsible for overseeing multiple store locations within a specified operational region including cities like Alameda, Auburn, Galt, Manteca, Marysville, Merced, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, and Sebastopol in California. Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Operations or the Vice President of Field Operations and Training, the District Manager is tasked with driving operational success across these various locations. This includes mentoring and developing senior property managers, property managers, resident managers, and assistant managers. The role is full-time and exempt from overtime with a competitive salary range from $82,000 to $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience. The work schedule is generally from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM but is flexible depending on project deadlines and assignments. It also demands a significant amount of travel, up to 50%, to effectively manage the district.

District Managers at US Storage Centers lead strategic initiatives to achieve district-level goals such as revenue growth, occupancy optimization, and profitability. They foster a collaborative culture, ensure communication flows efficiently across teams and departments, and manage through unusual or challenging events to maintain operational standards. Financial oversight includes monitoring key performance indicators, controlling expenses, and ensuring compliance with company policies. Furthermore, they oversee talent management, including recruiting, training, evaluating, and scheduling employees to build a motivated, high-performing team that delivers exceptional customer service.

Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to juggle multiple duties in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this position. The District Manager is also expected to contribute to special projects such as facility conversions and openings, ensuring a smooth transition and operational excellence. This expansive role is critical in shaping the customer experience and driving the overall performance of US Storage Centers within the assigned region, making it a highly impactful position within the company.
