Job Description
Bend-La Pine Schools, located in Bend, Oregon, is a public school district committed to fostering an equitable learning environment that promotes diversity, inclusion, and the removal of barriers to success for all students. With a steadfast dedication to the principle of equity—where all individuals are provided the necessary resources and opportunities to thrive—we strive to create policies, programs, and operational practices that reflect these values throughout the district. Serving thousands of students across numerous schools, Bend-La Pine Schools emphasizes high-quality education, community involvement, and comprehensive support for both students and staff. The district prioritizes professional conduct and inclusivity among employees, encouraging applicants from diverse and non-traditional backgrounds to consider joining their team.
The District Delivery Person is a vital role within the Nutrition Services Department, specifically in the Distribution Center, where efficient coordination and timely delivery of food, equipment, supplies, and mail across district schools and departments are essential. This position reports to the Distribution Manager or their designee and works under general supervision. The person in this role is responsible for receiving, storing, sorting, and transporting a broad range of materials, ensuring they reach the correct locations promptly. They must handle large quantities of items safely, including substantial monetary deposits that require secure transportation to the bank each day. The job demands adherence to strict traffic safety regulations, organized coordination with district staff, and outstanding customer service skills to represent Bend-La Pine Schools professionally throughout interactions.
Daily responsibilities include loading transport carts, operating vehicles specially equipped for food transport, maintaining delivery schedules to guarantee food arrives on time for school meals, sorting and delivering mail, assisting with warehouse tasks like unloading trucks and cleaning, as well as caring for transportation equipment and maintaining accurate delivery records. The physical nature of this job requires the ability to move and lift heavy containers exceeding 100 pounds regularly, push carts onto powered tailgates, and adapt to varying weather conditions.
Essential knowledge for the role includes understanding warehouse receiving, storing, and issuing procedures; safe operation of trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, and cleaning equipment; and knowledge of delivery and pickup routes throughout the district. The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, basic proficiency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Oregon driver's license with insurable status. On-the-job training is available, with expected proficiency achievable within six months. Bend-La Pine Schools values professionalism, reliable attendance, and adherence to drug-free workplace standards, and employees must maintain confidentiality and respectful interactions at all times. This position offers a dynamic work environment with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the district's mission of supporting student success and community well-being.
