Job Description
Amentum is a global leader in advanced engineering and innovative technology solutions, dedicated to supporting the United States and its allies with cutting-edge solutions that address some of the most significant and complex challenges in science, security, and sustainability. With a reputation built on undaunted curiosity, relentless ambition, and boundless imagination, Amentum is committed to pushing boundaries, challenging convention, and driving meaningful progress. The company places a high priority on collaboration, safety, and the well-being of its people, which it believes are essential pillars for successful project outcomes and customer satisfaction.
As a full-time, contract position offering $1,218 per week, this role is based on the road and involves working within the unique and challenging environment that supports the U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP). The focus is on emergency and non-emergency fire and emergency medical service dispatch within this specialized area. The role requires exceptional technical skills and the ability to respond promptly to a variety of crisis situations using complex communication systems. The Dispatcher is responsible for monitoring and responding to emergency calls received through multiple channels such as the 911 phone system, administrative phone lines, various radio systems, and other communication equipment.
The job duties include dispatching essential personnel and equipment, monitoring fire alarm systems, managing facility emergencies, and ensuring coordination across multidisciplinary teams including fire fighters, medical staff, search and rescue personnel, and technicians. This position demands strong situational awareness, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities while maintaining strict compliance with safety protocols and policies outlined by Amentum and USAP. The Dispatcher must be skilled in operating a wide range of communication equipment including HF, VHF, satellite telephone systems, and radio networks, and also assist in troubleshooting any equipment malfunctions.
In addition to communication tasks, the role involves maintaining accurate records and logs using software such as Firehouse, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, ensuring timely exchanges of shifts and sharing critical information without fail. The Dispatcher plays a critical role in emergency preparedness by supporting Emergency Operations Center (EOC) drills and actual events, coordinating emergency communications both on-site and internationally, and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information following PII, SI, and PHI policies.
The position requires someone who is willing and able to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods and successfully complete all required medical, dental, drug screenings, and background checks mandated by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the employer. Physical fitness is necessary to perform activities such as heavy lifting, climbing, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold weather. Amentum holds its employees accountable for promoting a safety culture, adhering to quality management systems, and complying with all operational and environmental policies.
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, have at least two years of emergency services dispatch experience, and possess relevant certifications, including Incident Command System ICS 100 and 200, along with valid emergency dispatcher certifications from recognized organizations like APCO or NENA or equivalent military certifications. Strong computer skills and the capacity to prioritize independently during high-pressure situations are essential. US Citizenship and eligibility to obtain facility credentials and security clearances are mandatory due to contract and site requirements.
Working a varied schedule to ensure 24/7 communications center coverage, including nights, holidays, and special events, the Dispatcher also supports ongoing projects and assists the Dispatch Communications Supervisor as needed. With its comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and an employee assistance program, this role offers competitive compensation and an opportunity to contribute to a mission-critical operation in one of the world's most challenging environments.
