Job Duties
- Hire and train clerks within the shipping department
- supervise clerks within the shipping department
- fabricate and oversee daily schedules, workflow, and assignments in the shipping department
- conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
- handle discipline and termination of employees according to company policies
- maintain DOT compliance within the shipping department
- maintain knowledge of best and cost-effective shipping methods
- identify third party haulers for efficient shipping routes
- maintain knowledge of transportation regulations including hazardous shipments and freight classifications
- review and analyze expenditures to develop and implement plans and budgets
- order aggregate, sand, cement, and rock
- provide customer service support and respond to inquiries promptly
- coordinate scheduling with customers, sales representatives, and operations
- create dispatch tickets for all outbound loads
- plan shipping forecast and maintain the dispatch board and schedule
- maintain shipping logs
- ensure trucking needs by scheduling transportation and communicating with stakeholders
- confirm scheduled transportation resources and make necessary changes
- pick and layout load lists for efficient shipments
- print and track bills of lading for accuracy
- maintain detailed records of shipping progress and forecasting
- produce shipping notifications and weekly shipping schedules for plant personnel
- cultivate strong relationships with customers and drivers
- monitor route changes and road conditions and collaborate with logistics companies to revise routes
- maintain neat and orderly work areas
- embrace strong work ethics across company and client teams
- manage unexpected delays and changes effectively
- use time efficiently with goal setting and realistic action plans
- promote safety and quality ensuring accurate and thorough work
- report damaged or discrepant inventory and conduct audits
- perform other related duties as required
