The Steward role at Sonesta International Hotels is a vital part of the culinary team, centered on ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, utensils, and cookware. Stewards play a critical part in meeting the high standards of hygiene and orderliness required in a fast-paced kitchen environment, contributing directly to the overall guest satisfaction that Sonesta prides itself on. This role requires the Steward to maintain a spotless kitchen, which includes heavy-duty cleaning tasks of ovens, grills, sinks, floors, and walk-in refrigerators and freezers. The Steward must also have a thorough understanding of proper chemical handling and sanitation standards, including knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all cleaning agents. The position requires hands-on operation of dishwashing equipment to ensure all China, glassware, and silverware are cleaned thoroughly and stored carefully to avoid breakage.
Additionally, Stewards support food service operations by helping with the employee cafeteria and banquet services, assisting with setup and breakdown duties for restaurant buffets, and providing support in other kitchen roles as needed. Important safety and operational procedures such as knowing fire extinguishing equipment, maintaining safe work practices to avoid injuries, and reporting maintenance needs are essential duties of this position. The Steward must uphold a “Clean As You Go” policy, maintaining a continuously sanitary environment in all kitchen areas, back dock, dumpster, and utility spaces.
Compensation for this role ranges between $21.00 and $22.00 per hour, with the final rate depending on factors such as job-related skills, knowledge, and experience. Job Requirements

- prior experience in a food service or hospitality environment preferred
- ability to follow safety and sanitation protocols

Job Duties
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and orderliness in all kitchens, back dock, dumpster and utility work areas
- heavy-duty cleaning of ovens, grills, sinks, walls, floors, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and other heavy kitchen equipment
- maintain a clean and sanitary environment with knowledge of proper handling, storage, and sanitation
- be able to properly use chemicals to sanitize and know the MSDS information of each
- service food for the employee cafeteria as specified by the chef or kitchen supervisor
- operate the dishwashing equipment to ensure that all china, glass, and silver are cleaned thoroughly and sanitation of such is maintained
- return all clean china, glass, and silver to its proper storage location using care to minimize breakage
