Job Description

Commonpoint is a well-established community-focused organization dedicated to making a meaningful impact across the diverse neighborhoods it serves. As a nonprofit entity, Commonpoint is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that nurtures growth, learning, and well-being. Their range of programs is designed to meet the varied needs of the community, spanning social services, educational support, and cultural enrichment. Emphasizing collaboration and proactive engagement, Commonpoint continues to build strong community ties through innovative and responsive outreach initiatives.

The Kitchen team at Commonpoint plays a critical role in supporting these initiatives by ensuring that all participants in the agency's programs are well-nourished and healthy. The dishwasher/food prep position is an integral part of the kitchen operations, where maintaining cleanliness and preparing ingredients are essential responsibilities that keep daily processes efficient. This role involves operating commercial dishwashing machines to clean and sanitize all kitchenware, including dishes, glassware, and utensils, while also assisting with food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients.

Reporting directly to the Culinary Operations Director, the dishwasher/food prep team member ensures that kitchen activities run smoothly in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This position contributes significantly to upholding high standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety, adhering to health regulations such as HACCP and ServSafe guidelines. The role demands strong teamwork, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining quality and speed. The dishwasher/food prep role supports a positive kitchen culture by collaborating closely with cooks, servers, and other staff members.

This is a part-time, seasonal position with an hourly salary of $18, and regular working hours from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 1 pm. Candidates should be prepared for a physically demanding work environment with prolonged standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and exposure to heat, steam, and humidity. The role requires diligence in following company policies regarding food safety, personal hygiene, and uniform standards. Commonpoint offers comprehensive training to candidates with no prior kitchen experience, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to learn and contribute to a meaningful cause while gaining valuable culinary and operational skills.

Beyond the technical and physical requirements, Commonpoint values individuals who demonstrate a positive attitude, punctuality, adaptability, and a keen eye for detail. Employees in this role are expected to uphold the organization's ethical standards and safety protocols consistently. The dishwasher/food prep position provides a dynamic working environment where teamwork and communication are essential to meeting the fast-paced demands of program delivery. This role is vital to Commonpoint's mission of supporting community wellness through effective food service operations, illustrating the profound connection between nutrition, care, and service in community development.
