As a janitor in the Food Services Department, the individual will be responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks that ensure a safe, hygienic, and pleasant environment for both students and staff. This role includes routine duties such as sweeping and cleaning porch areas, refilling and maintaining paper supply dispensers, cleaning all bathrooms, emptying garbage, and maintaining common areas including glass doors and door handles. Additionally, janitorial responsibilities extend to cleaning and maintaining floors, servicing banquet rooms after events, and securing the facility by closing and locking windows and doors at night. Regular washing of windows, both inside and outside, is also required to uphold the campus' pristine appearance.
The ideal candidate will possess at least six months of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals. Physical demands of the job include lifting up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, and performing various physical activities related to janitorial duties such as pushing and pulling equipment.

- Six months of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- ability to speak effectively to customers, staff and students
- ability to work with simple mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division and multiplication
- ability to solve practical problems and deal with a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- ability to listen to and apply instructions
- ability to request guidance as needed
- lifting and carrying of items weighting up to 50 pounds
- standing for long periods of time
- kneeling and twisting may be required for short periods of time
- pulling/pushing of janitorial equipment such as floor polishers/buffers and other physical activities necessary in performing janitorial work
