The Community Utility Associate plays a vital role within this passionate team by ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the community’s food services. This full-time position is instrumental in maintaining a hygienic, safe environment in food preparation and dining areas. The role involves a range of responsibilities, including washing dishes, pots and pans, cleaning equipment, managing food storage, and maintaining general kitchen cleanliness and order. The Utility Associate ensures that all kitchen equipment is operated correctly and that all food handling follows health and safety standards. This position also supports other kitchen functions such as inventory management, food preparation assistance, stocking shelves, and following established emergency protocols. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred/ ged accepted
  • Some kitchen experience is desirable
  • Basic knife skills required
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Must have organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Physically able to bend and reach
  • Physically able to push and pull and lift up to 40-50 pounds if necessary
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods of time
  • May be required to work weekends and holidays as assigned
  • May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired
  • May be required to work extended hours up to 16 hours per day
  • May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions including HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B and C viruses
  • Could be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents due to mental status
  • Must be in good physical and emotional health and free of communicable diseases
  • Background, criminal, and drug tests may be required
  • May be asked to submit to random drug test during employment
  • May have their picture taken and image used in social media or community advertising
  • May be video recorded from devices installed by families in residents apartments

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Follows the posted work schedule and arrives on time and in appropriate work attire
  • Responsible for the proper washing of china, flatware, glassware, and other kitchen equipment including machine rinse pressure and water temperature
  • Responsible for maintaining the kitchen and other assigned areas in a sanitary condition
  • Establishes and maintains constructive working relationships with other kitchen personnel and residents
  • Must be familiar with food-handling procedures and regulations
  • Must know how to operate kitchen appliances such as garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, and ice machine
  • May be required to help with food preparation, inventory, and maintenance as well as food deliveries and stocking shelves
  • Follow all emergency procedures
  • Understands all safety practices and procedures
  • Reports on-the-job injuries to the Community Cook and/or Food & Beverage Director before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs
  • Communicates effectively with Food & Beverage Director and other staff
  • Advises Food & Beverage Director of any changes in physical or mental health of a resident immediately
  • Maintains an acceptable attendance record, notifies Food & Beverage Director if he/she expects to be late or unable to work in accordance with personnel policies, and follows work schedule
