The college prioritizes continual improvement, service excellence, and perseverance in all aspects of education and training, making it a sought-after institution for aspiring professionals in hospitality and related fields.
The role being offered is for a Dishwasher and Trainer position within the Center for Hospitality Excellence at Kirkwood Community College. This is a critical role that supports the operational excellence of the hospitality programs by maintaining cleanliness, organization, and functionality in kitchen and banquet areas. The position requires Saturday and Sunday availability, highlighting the importance of weekend support in hospitality training and event service. As a trainer, the successful candidate will play an integral part in supervising and mentoring students across various centers of the college, including The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, the Kirkwood Center for Hospitality Arts, and the Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education. This responsibility involves guiding students through practical, hands-on experiences necessary for their development as future hospitality professionals.
The Dishwasher and Trainer will be tasked with washing and drying dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using dishwashers or hand washing techniques, ensuring that all items are sanitized and organized for efficient kitchen operation. The role extends to transporting items to banquet areas and conducting inventory tasks such as gathering china, glass, and silverware. Maintaining cleanliness in kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils is essential for health and safety compliance and provides students with exemplary standards to emulate. The position requires physical stamina, including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and other active duties typical in a commercial kitchen environment.
Equally important are the qualities of leadership and communication, as the trainer supervises the learning experience, documents student progress, and promotes adherence to health codes and sanitary guidelines. The ability to nurture a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that respects diverse backgrounds and experiences is a key aspect of the role, aligning with Kirkwood’s commitment to equity and inclusion. This position requires reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude, essential for maintaining the high standards of service excellence at the Center for Hospitality Excellence.
