This full-time, non-management position based in Newark, New Jersey, at the JW Marriott, presents a vital role within the Food and Beverage and Culinary departments. The role entails operating and maintaining cleaning equipment and tools, including dishwashers, hand-washing stations, pot scrubbing areas, and trash compactors. Responsibilities include washing and sanitizing kitchen areas, storage rooms, tables, utensils, knives, and equipment to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The position also involves receiving deliveries, properly storing perishable items, rotating stock, and ensuring clean dishware is stored appropriately. Using chemical detergents, disinfectants, and rinse agents in a three-compartment sink system is essential for dishwashing tasks. The job requires inspecting and stacking clean items, resending dirty items for re-cleaning, and applying hot water spray to loosen and remove food residues.
Further duties encompass classifying, soaking, washing, and re-washing cutlery, sorting containers for dirty items, emptying trash bins, maintaining waste disposal areas, and cleaning and mopping assigned departmental areas. The role involves disposing of glassware into designated containers and breaking down cardboard and other recyclable materials for proper recycling. Adherence to company safety policies, reporting accidents or hazardous conditions, completing all required safety training and certifications, and protecting company property are mandatory. Effective communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships to support team goals are necessary. The physical demands include moving, lifting, transporting, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing up to 50 pounds independently, along with standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods and frequent bending, twisting, and reaching motions.
