Job Description

The Bohemian Grove is an exclusive and historic private club nestled on 2,700 acres of majestic redwood forest in the lower Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California. Established over 150 years ago, the club offers a unique sanctuary where members and their guests immerse themselves in arts, music, literature, drama, nature walks, and fine dining. The Grove holds a rare blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and tradition, making it an unparalleled destination for an enriching summer experience. Its long-standing heritage is punctuated by the serene environment of towering redwoods, which adds to the exclusivity and tranquil atmosphere the club is famous for.

Joining the Bohemian Grove as a Dishwasher and Kitchen Steward for the summer encampment in Monte Rio, CA, presents a rare opportunity to work in this unique setting from Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 31, 2026 (dates to be confirmed). The role offers a summer-only commitment with excellent hourly wages and flexible schedules, ideal for those looking to gain valuable experience in a distinguished hospitality environment. This position is crucial for maintaining the highest level of cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and back areas, ensuring that the entire food preparation environment adheres to strict health and hygiene standards. The Dishwasher and Kitchen Steward will operate and maintain cleaning equipment, wash all types of dishware and kitchen vessels, sweep and mop floors, and assist in keeping the kitchen ready for inspection at all times.

This role is not only about dishwashing but encompasses a full range of duties that help maintain the smooth operation of a high-volume kitchen during the busy summer encampment period. Employees are expected to work according to their schedules, which often include early morning shifts starting at 5:00 a.m. and late-night shifts possibly until 11:00 p.m., often involving split shifts. Adherence to California state law regarding meal and rest breaks is mandatory, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment. Employees are provided uniforms, including company-issued pants, chef coats, hats, and appropriate footwear, reflecting the professional standards maintained at Bohemian Grove.

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 2 years of experience working in high-volume food service and demonstrate competence in operating common kitchen equipment such as mixers, convection ovens, steamers, slicers, and fryers. Knowledge of food products and preparation techniques, as well as proficiency in basic knife skills and kitchen fabrications, is highly valued. The candidate must be a versatile team player capable of supporting various kitchen functions and answering questions about food preparation and storage. Formal culinary training or certification through an accredited culinary institute or apprenticeship is desirable. Physical stamina is essential, with employees required to stand for long periods, tolerate fluctuating hot and cold conditions, and lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds regularly. The role also requires the ability to work outdoors and follow directions from multiple supervisors in a dynamic and fast-paced kitchen environment.

Working at the Bohemian Grove summer encampment combines the rewarding challenge of high-volume kitchen stewardship with the privilege of being part of an elite and historic organization. Employees will gain hands-on experience in a demanding but supportive environment while enjoying the natural splendor of Sonoma County's redwood forests. This unique job opportunity offers not just a summer role but a chance to be part of a storied tradition that blends culture, nature, and culinary excellence.
