Job Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and understand diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments
  • Numerical ability for proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices including use of gloves while handling dishes
  • Thoroughness at handling soiled dishes, serving trays, operating dietary equipment and cleaning work areas
  • Time management skills with willingness to work flexible hours

Job Duties

  • Act in conformance with facility and departmental policies and procedures including human resources, code of ethics and business conduct, health and safety regulations, compliance requirements, patient rights, confidentiality, and HIPAA
  • Attend department meetings as required
  • Demonstrate accountability for personal and professional growth and required certifications or licenses
  • Complete mandatory training and competencies annually
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures specific to the assigned work account
  • Follow cleaning schedules and perform cleaning duties as scheduled
  • Assist in arranging trays, loading food carts, and serving meals
  • Set up the dining room and serve residents
  • Wash and store dishes
  • Sweep, mop, and take out the trash
  • Keep all areas inside and outside dining areas free of debris
  • Follow established reporting procedures for all supply and equipment needs
  • Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies
  • Follow defined safety codes while performing duties
  • Follow defined infection control procedures
  • Understand and follow the facility’s fire and disaster plans during drills and emergencies
  • Be knowledgeable of federal, state, and facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to the job
  • Perform other department duties or special assignments as directed by the general manager or designee
