Job Description
The Overlake School is a respected educational institution located on 75 acres of natural beauty just minutes from Downtown Redmond. This school community is deeply connected through a shared sense of purpose, a passion for learning, and a strong belief in the potential and power of people. The Overlake School balances tradition with innovative thinking, creating an environment where members laugh, learn, and lead with compassion. The school is committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring atmosphere for its students, faculty, and staff.
As part of this vibrant community, the Kitchen team at The Overlake School plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing of all who pass through its halls. The school is currently seeking a full-time Kitchen team member who will contribute to preparing and serving nutritious meals to students, staff, and faculty. This position is a 10-month role aligned with the 2026-27 academic year, offering a stable and meaningful part-time opportunity within a collaborative, respectful, and fast-paced kitchen environment.
The successful candidate will join a small but dedicated team responsible for key kitchen operations, including both dishwashing and food preparation duties. The kitchen team fosters a culture rooted in teamwork and mutual respect. Employees will work Monday to Friday, primarily from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with occasional weekend events requiring support. As this position follows the academic calendar, it includes extended unpaid breaks, notably during the summer and other school vacations, which requires careful financial planning for those applying.
Compensation for this role ranges from $20.00 to $21.50 per hour, reflecting the value the school places on each member's contribution. Employees benefit from a comprehensive package including a $5 premium contribution to all medical plans, full employee coverage for dental and vision plans, and 35% coverage for dependents' medical, dental, and vision care. The benefits extend to 10 days of paid time off based on tenure for full-time, 10-month staff, paid holidays when the school is fully closed, and an employer match on retirement contributions ranging from 5 to 10% based on years of service.
Additional perks of working at The Overlake School include on-site health and wellness resources, a professional development allowance to support ongoing growth, daily meal allowances covering breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and access to an Employee Assistance Program. Disability insurance and life insurance are also provided, along with unique opportunities such as use of the school library and a new employee cross-department mentorship program designed to integrate and support new team members.
This role at The Overlake School emphasizes compliance with all health and safety standards in the kitchen. Key responsibilities include washing dishes and kitchen equipment, assisting with food preparation for meals, maintaining cleanliness and organization, supporting team operations, adhering to all kitchen protocols, and occasionally aiding with weekend events. The school promotes a tobacco-free campus and seeks individuals who are eager to learn and contribute positively to the kitchen culture.
The Overlake School is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated and everyone has equal opportunity for employment and advancement. Background checks and employment eligibility are required and conducted in compliance with applicable laws.
This kitchen team opportunity at The Overlake School is perfect for someone who enjoys a dynamic work environment that combines the stability of a school calendar with the rewarding experience of contributing to a supportive and values-driven community.
