Job Description
Gospel Rescue Mission is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit religious organization dedicated to providing vital social service programs to homeless and working poor populations. The organization operates with a faith-aligned mission, emphasizing that all work is centered around the will of God and honors the name of Jesus Christ. As a faith-driven institution, Gospel Rescue Mission upholds high standards of integrity, compassion, and service to those in crisis. The organization strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment for guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors, helping restore dignity and hope to vulnerable individuals in the community. Gospel Rescue Mission values professionalism, compassion, and a strong work ethic among its employees, promoting a culture of mutual respect, teamwork, and personal growth.
The Dishwasher / Cleaner position at Gospel Rescue Mission plays a crucial role in supporting the kitchen operations and overall campus cleanliness. This full-time role, averaging 40 hours per week with a flexible schedule that may include occasional weekends, is vital for maintaining a safe, sanitary, and organized environment for meal service. The starting pay is $15.15 per hour, and the role is classified as non-exempt, making it eligible for paid time off and other benefits. The person in this position reports directly to the Kitchen Manager and is responsible for performing an array of cleaning duties, dishwashing, and supporting the kitchen staff to ensure food safety and hygiene standards are consistently met.
This position necessitates someone who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional cleanliness and sanitation standards. Responsibilities include washing dishes, pots, pans, trays, utensils, and kitchen equipment in a timely manner, sweeping and mopping floors, sanitizing surfaces, emptying trash and recycling containers, and restocking cleaning and hygiene supplies. Additionally, the Dishwasher / Cleaner assists with kitchen closing and deep cleaning procedures, handles deliveries, and supports special events and meal service operations.
The role demands physical endurance, including frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to hot water, cleaning chemicals, and wet floors. Emotional resilience is also essential due to the vulnerable population served, who are often in crisis; therefore, the organization encourages employee self-care to manage emotional stress and compassion fatigue.
To succeed in this role, an individual must demonstrate strong attention to cleanliness and detail, effective multitasking capabilities, dependability, teamwork skills, and excellent communication. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in dishwashing, janitorial, custodial, kitchen, or cleaning roles, with a preference for familiarity with sanitation, food safety, and cleaning equipment. Ethical conduct and maintaining a positive attitude are paramount in providing a welcoming atmosphere aligned with the mission of Gospel Rescue Mission.
Overall, this opportunity offers a meaningful career path within a faith-based nonprofit organization that values both professional development and community impact. Employees at Gospel Rescue Mission are supported through training, goal setting, and involvement in networking opportunities to foster growth and sustain the organization's mission. If you are committed to serving vulnerable populations with compassion and uphold high cleanliness and organizational standards, this role provides a rewarding chance to be part of a ministry-driven team making a difference every day.
