The role offered is a Dishwasher position that plays a crucial part in the smooth running of the restaurant. This role requires an individual who not only performs the essential duties of cleaning and sanitizing dishware, pots, pans, and cooking equipment but also maintains the overall cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and surrounding work areas. The dishwasher position supports the kitchen staff by ensuring an adequate supply of clean tableware and utensils, monitoring dishwasher performance, and managing waste removal and recycling efforts.

The dishwasher is responsible for using commercial dishwashers, glasswashers, pot-washing machines, and power washers efficiently while observing safety and sanitation standards. Attention to detail is vital, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced, hot, wet, and loud environment. The dishwasher must also be physically capable of lifting heavy items repeatedly during shifts and standing for extended periods. This role promotes teamwork by coordinating with fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and maintain operational standards, while also participating in scheduled employee meetings to foster continuous improvement.

Additional responsibilities include receiving and stocking supplies, cleaning food preparation areas, and assisting in banquet setup when required. This role is typically a full-time or part-time restaurant position with shifts that may include weekends and holidays.   • Reliable transportation to and from work

  • able to work in a hot, wet, humid, and loud environment for long periods of time
  • able to work in a standing position for long periods of time up to 5 hours
  • able to lift, reach, bend and stoop
  • able to safely lift bags, cases and stacks weighing up to 60 pounds up to 30 times per shift.

  • experience working in a restaurant or kitchen environment preferred
  • knowledge of proper sanitation and safety procedures
  • ability to operate commercial dishwashing equipment
  • good communication skills
  • ability to work collaboratively with team members.

Job Duties

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Smithfield Station
  • wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans, using a dishwasher or by hand
  • keep dishwasher clean and immediately report any functional or mechanical problems
  • monitor dishwasher water temperature to ensure sanitary wash cycle
  • use test strips to insure chemicals are correct
  • maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition
  • place clean dishes, utensils, or cooking equipment in storage areas
  • maintain adequate levels of clean tableware for dining room and kitchen
  • maintain adequate levels of dish detergents and cleaning supplies
  • sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas
  • break down all boxes and place in recycling bin
  • sweep or scrub floors
  • stock supplies, such as food or utensils, in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, or store rooms
  • clean food preparation and production areas as required
  • receive and store supplies
  • clean garbage cans with water or steam
  • handle tableware carefully to prevent breakage and loss
  • sort and run silverware through dishwasher twice, store silverware upside down in containers
  • attend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvement
  • coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support restaurant operations
  • fill in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations
  • load or unload trucks that deliver or pick up food or supplies
  • set up banquet tables, chafing dishes, etc.
