Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year food service experience preferred
  • Must obtain Food Handlers Card within 30 days
  • Ability to follow sanitation and safety protocols
  • Capability to work flexible shifts between 6:30 am and 9:00 pm
  • Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks including lifting and standing for extended periods
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • 1 year food service experience preferred
  • Food Handlers Card (FH) - VA State ANSI-approved required within 30 days
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to use dish machine and three-compartment sink effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills for positive communication with patients, families, and staff
  • Ability to work effectively during heavy workloads and assist team members
  • Knowledge of FIFO inventory practices and food storage monitoring
  • Ability to follow infection control and safety standards
  • Reliable and flexible work ethic

Job Duties

  • Ensures all service ware are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each meal to prevent delays in tray line and cafeteria service
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in using the dish machine and three-compartment sink
  • Completes proper setup, breakdown, and cleaning of kitchen equipment according to policies
  • Handles service ware carefully to minimize loss and damage, removing damaged items and alerting management
  • Accurately documents dish machine and sanitizing temperatures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Delivers patient trays to nursing units within established time limits maintaining minimal temperature loss
  • Demonstrates flexibility and reliability in meeting customer needs
  • Uses time effectively and assists other workers during heavy workload periods
  • Maintains positive interpersonal communications with patients, families, and internal customers
  • Follows FIFO inventory practices ensuring products are rotated, labeled, and dated properly
  • Monitors temperatures and quality of food in storage areas, alerting management to discrepancies
  • Demonstrates proper use of cleaning chemicals and ensures chemical dispensers function correctly
  • Performs cleaning duties in a timely and thorough manner complying with Infection Control Standards
  • Ensures completion of assigned cleaning tasks and alerts supervisor when unable to complete duties
  • Periodically removes kitchen trash and maintains clean trash cans with lids and liners
  • Sweeps and cleans floors throughout and at the end of shifts using wet floor signs
  • Ensures dish machine and floors are cleaned daily and trash is pulled prior to shift end
