The Dishroom Clerk role is part of the Market Grille department within Hy-Vee stores. This position is non-exempt and hourly paid, with an anticipated starting wage ranging from $16.00 to $20.00 per hour depending on experience. The role primarily involves providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the work environment. Responsibilities include handling kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, and food safely, ensuring that all items are washed and sanitized properly, and keeping the dishroom and kitchen areas tidy and organized.
The Dishroom Clerk will contribute significantly to the smooth operation of the Market Grille by supporting both the kitchen and customer service functions. The role requires teamwork, effective communication, and adherence to company policies regarding personal hygiene, appearance, and food safety. Employees in this position are expected to greet customers warmly, assist with telephone inquiries, take orders when necessary, and support other store departments as needed. Job Requirements
- Must be 18 or older
- Must be able to physically perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Must have vision with or without correction adequate to perform job duties including depth perception, color vision, and field of vision
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
Job Qualifications
- No education requirement
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience
- Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions
- Ability to do simple addition and subtraction
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
- Ability to write identifying information and request supplies orally or in writing
Job Duties
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store
- Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible
- Answers the telephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call including taking customer orders
- Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- Takes the department garbage to the compactor or designated area
- Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
- Washes department equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, etc.
- Handles food in a safe manner and ensures the work area is always clean and neat
- Removes trash in a timely manner
- Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines
- Reports to work when scheduled and on time
