Job Description

St. Charles Health System is a prominent healthcare organization dedicated to delivering exceptional medical and wellness services to the community it serves. With a strong commitment to creating America’s healthiest community together, the system embodies a vision of excellent care, compassion, and collaborative health advancement. Its mission is grounded in love and compassion, focusing on better health, better care, and better value for patients and families. Valuing accountability, caring, and teamwork, St. Charles Health System fosters a supportive and ethical environment for both caregivers and the patients they serve. The Food Services Department within St. Charles Health System is a high-volume service area that plays a critical role in supporting patient health through delivering world-class food and beverage services. This includes managing patient room service, café offerings, deli selections, and catering events, all with the aim of enhancing the patient experience through proper nutrition and quality food presentation.

The role of the Food Service Cleaning Attendant within this respected healthcare setting is vital to the overall efficiency and hygiene standards of the food services operation. Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor, the cleaning attendant is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards by thoroughly washing dishes, cookware, and kitchen utensils using commercial equipment and hand cleaning when necessary. This position requires careful attention to detail and adherence to sanitation protocols that comply with both St. Charles Health System and Oregon Food Sanitation standards. The attendant performs routine and deep cleaning tasks, ensuring all food service areas, including floors, mats, walls, carts, and kitchen equipment, are hygienic and orderly, thus preventing contamination and supporting infection control measures critical in healthcare environments.

This role does not involve supervisory responsibilities but requires strong teamwork, communication skills, and a reliable work ethic. The attendant frequently retrieves used food trays and carts from patient care areas and supports other food service operations when needed, including food delivery. The job involves physical demands such as standing, walking on wet and slippery surfaces, and lifting or carrying items up to 50 pounds intermittently, along with the necessity of wearing personal protective equipment to maintain safety. The position entails working variable shifts with differential pay for relief, swing shifts, night shifts, and weekends, with an hourly wage range of $19.81 to $24.76, reflecting the importance of the role in maintaining a clean and safe food environment in a busy healthcare setting.

Through this role, the Food Service Cleaning Attendant supports the vision, mission, and core values of St. Charles Health System by ensuring a safe and sanitary environment that promotes patient wellbeing and caregiver safety. The position also encourages involvement in continuous improvement practices (Value Improvement Practice - VIP-Lean), highlighting the organization’s commitment to operational excellence. This role is ideal for individuals who prioritize high standards of cleanliness, enjoy working in fast-paced, team-oriented environments, and who desire to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare community by supporting nutritional services that enhance patient care.
