Job Description

St. Charles Health System is a well-established healthcare organization dedicated to creating America's healthiest community through compassionate and comprehensive care. The system operates a high-volume Food Services Department that caters to patient room service, café, deli, and catering needs, ensuring that quality food and beverage services are available to patients, visitors, and staff alike. The Food Services Department prides itself on delivering world-class service while maintaining the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and customer care. With a focus on teamwork, accountability, and compassion, St. Charles Health System fosters a positive work environment where dedicated professionals can grow and thrive.

The Food Service Cleaning Attendant position at St. Charles Health System is a vital role within this team, responsible for maintaining stringent cleanliness standards in the kitchen and throughout food service areas. This role involves cleaning and sanitizing a variety of kitchen tools, dishes, and cookware using commercial dishwashing equipment and manual cleaning methods. The attendant's responsibilities extend beyond dishwashing to routine and deep cleaning of kitchen floors, walls, equipment, and waste disposal areas. Adhering strictly to St. Charles standards and Oregon Food Sanitation regulations, this role ensures that food preparation environments are safe, sanitary, and compliant with health guidelines.

This position does not include supervisory duties but requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively with the food service team. The role is part-time with variable shifts and pays between $19.81 and $24.76 per hour plus differentials for relief work, swing, night, and weekend shifts. The position supports the organization’s mission of better health, better care, and better value through dedicated attention to cleanliness and customer support, including occasional assistance with food delivery to patients when necessary.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience in a food handling environment and possession of a Deschutes County Food Handlers Card are preferred, with additional certifications like ServSafe Manager also considered advantageous. The position requires the consistent use of personal protective equipment to ensure safety standards are met.

St. Charles Health System emphasizes continuous improvement through its Value Improvement Practice (VIP-Lean) principles, encouraging employees to engage with innovative practices and champion change. This role is integral to supporting the health system's values of accountability, caring, and teamwork by ensuring that the food service environment is both safe and welcoming for all caregivers, patients, and guests. This commitment is reflected in the high standards of professionalism and confidentiality expected from every team member in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
