Job Description
The hiring establishment for this position is a well-recognized institution located in Los Angeles, California, specializing in hospitality services within a campus dining environment. Known for its commitment to providing quality food services and maintaining high safety and cleanliness standards, the campus dining department plays an integral role in creating an outstanding dining experience for students, faculty, and staff. The department operates with dedicated teams that emphasize teamwork, efficiency, and adherence to health and safety regulations, establishing a clean and welcoming atmosphere across dining facilities. This position is represented for collective bargaining purposes by the Teamsters, which reflects a structured and supportive work environment for its employees.
The role available is for a Dishroom Assistant within the Campus Dining department. This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. The role is indefinite in duration, offering stable employment with an expected pay rate of $19.04 per hour, complemented by a generous compensation and benefits package. The Dishroom Assistant will operate under the supervision of the Associate Director of Campus Dining, working closely with a team of sanitation staff members to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of dining service areas.
In this role, the Dishroom Assistant will primarily focus on the manual and machine washing of dishes, utensils, and food preparation equipment to maintain hygiene and operational efficiency. The duties also encompass waste management by sorting and removing trash, recyclables, and compostables in compliance with campus policies to support sustainability initiatives. The assistant will maintain cleanliness by sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning walls, ceilings, fixtures, and equipment to adhere to strict health code requirements. An important aspect of this role is assisting in maintaining a high health code rating by following county health department procedures for cleaning and sanitization. The assistant is expected to handle cleaning chemicals safely, applying manufacturer guidelines and only managing chemicals for which they have been trained.
Safety is a key priority in this role, requiring the Dishroom Assistant to ensure the safety of staff, guests, food, equipment, and facilities at all times by employing proper safety measures and proactively identifying and mitigating hazards. The assistant is also expected to contribute to the prevention of equipment losses, breakage, and shortages by exercising care and attention during all tasks.
Moreover, the position involves customer service responsibilities such as assisting customers with questions or concerns and maintaining a positive and cooperative work environment. The assistant supports other team members and participates in major campus-wide events as needed, showcasing flexibility and teamwork within a dynamic dining environment.
This role is ideally suited for individuals who are detail-oriented, efficient, and committed to quality work in a demanding, fast-paced setting. The opportunity not only offers consistent employment but also the chance to be part of a dedicated team within a prominent hospitality-focused organization committed to justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity. This position promises a rewarding career path with a focus on maintaining exemplary standards of cleanliness and safety while contributing to the positive campus dining experience.
