Operating multiple 24x7 family centers and shelters, Mary's Place offers a safe haven where families can find refuge together along with essential services such as nourishing meals, showers, clothing, and access to critical resources including housing and employment assistance. This organization embodies core values centered around diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, reflecting its commitment to serve vulnerable populations with sensitivity and respect. As an equal opportunity employer, Mary's Place fosters a culturally diverse work environment where every employee's contribution helps advance their mission of ending homelessness and ensuring no child's basic need for a safe place to sleep goes unmet.
The Dish/Prep Cook role at Mary's Place is a vital position within the Food Services team, reporting directly to the Food Services Chef/Manager. This full-time, non-exempt position is based at the downtown Seattle site and involves working a Tuesday through Saturday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering an hourly wage of $25.00 per hour depending on experience. The successful candidate in this role will have hands-on experience in dishwashing and basic food preparation, thriving in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Responsibilities include washing dishes, mopping floors, managing trash and recycling, assisting with food preparation tasks such as chopping and portioning meals, and supporting the overall kitchen operation by maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards. The Dish/Prep Cook plays a crucial role in ensuring that the kitchen consistently meets health and safety regulations while supporting the delivery of delicious, nutritious meals to support women and families overcoming homelessness.
This role requires a team-oriented mindset, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to working collaboratively with a diverse group of colleagues. Within the Mary’s Place kitchen, the employee will take pride in maintaining an orderly and clean work environment while actively participating in training and development opportunities. Sensitivity to the unique needs of guests who may face barriers such as homelessness, language differences, domestic violence, or substance abuse is essential. The institution supports its workforce through a comprehensive benefits package including full medical and dental coverage, life insurance, retirement plans, transportation allowances, paid time off, and employee assistance programs.
