The Director of the Visitor Center at Emerson College holds a vital role in shaping the initial on-campus experience for prospective students and their families. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and is responsible for creating memorable and personalized visits that align with the college’s enrollment goals and institutional brand standards. The Director leads the development of campus tours, oversees the Student Ambassador program including recruitment and training, and manages ongoing communication with visitors and enrollment stakeholders. This highly visible leadership role requires collaboration across various divisions such as Institutional Advancement, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Enrollment Management to ensure a seamless and high-quality visitor experience.

In their role, the Director continuously designs and reimagines the visit experience strategy, integrating innovative technologies and immersive elements to elevate guest engagement. They are responsible for long-term strategic planning of the Visitor Center, including capital improvement recommendations aligned with Emerson's strategic vision for 2030. They serve as an ambassador for the institution, facilitating personalized consultations with prospective students, connecting their aspirations to the college's academic strengths and culture. Additionally, the Director oversees data analysis related to visitor engagement, leveraging CRM tools to optimize follow-up strategies that convert visits into enrollments. They also lead an ongoing staff training program to ensure all visitor-facing personnel represent Emerson with confidence and expertise. Annual benchmarking against peer institutions and participation in professional associations is part of their commitment to maintaining excellence and innovation in the visitor experience.

The role requires someone with strong executive presence, strategic vision, and proven management skills to maintain a competitive and attractive Student Ambassador program and to successfully manage large-scale visit programs and recruitment events. The Director operates within a collaborative matrix environment, communicating effectively across divisions and contributing to enrollment initiatives that support Emerson's overall mission. This leadership position demands a combination of creativity, analytical skills, and operational excellence to continually refine the visitor journey and enhance the College's reputation among prospective students.

This full-time position is based on the Boston campus and requires an in-person presence during the workweek. The compensation range for this role is competitive, between $104,000 and $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in university or college admissions office or event planning
  • Ability to move/lift light objects occasionally
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods
  • Ability to provide a walking tour of the campus
  • Ability to concentrate mentally for extended periods
  • Availability to work occasionally on Saturdays for special enrollment events

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in a university or college admissions office or proven event planning experience
  • Experience in set production or highly engaging guest experiences preferred
  • Experience with technologies enhancing immersive guest experience
  • Experience in a higher-education setting preferred

Job Duties

  • Design and continuously reimagine a signature visit experience strategy aligned with enrollment goals and institutional brand standards
  • Lead multi-year strategic planning for the Visitor Center, including capital improvement recommendations, aligned with the Emerson 2030 Strategic Plan
  • Incorporate cutting-edge technology and immersive experiences for guests
  • Lead recruitment, training and talent development across the Student Ambassador program, making it a highly competitive and desirable student employment position
  • Serve as the divisional lead for cross-campus experience design, partnering with academic and institutional leaders to curate a Visitor Center experience that reflects institutional distinction
  • Oversee a comprehensive visit management system, directing cross-functional coordination across campus units to deliver seamless, high-touch service
  • Serve as a senior institutional ambassador, engaging prospective students and families in personalized, consultative conversations
  • Design and execute a post-visit engagement strategy leveraging CRM data to advance prospective students through the enrollment funnel
  • Lead ongoing staff training and knowledge development ensuring team members are representative and confident
  • Benchmark against peer institutions and author an annual State of the Visit Experience report with data-driven recommendations
  • Analyze visit data and yield correlations to inform enrollment strategy and report outcomes to senior leadership
  • Serve as a strategic partner and divisional liaison, co-leading cross-functional enrollment initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
