Job Description

CSL is a global biotechnology leader dedicated to developing and delivering innovative medicines that save and improve lives. The company is committed to leveraging cutting-edge science and technology to address significant medical needs and improve health outcomes worldwide. With a rich heritage in biopharmaceuticals, CSL operates in a highly regulated environment, emphasizing compliance, quality, and strategic growth. They invest heavily in digital transformation and technology initiatives to maintain their industry leadership and drive sustained business success.

The Director of the Value Realization Office (VRO) at CSL plays a crucial role in ensuring that the company’s digital and technological investments consistently deliver measurable, sustained business value. This position is responsible for establishing and governing an enterprise-wide, disciplined approach to defining, shaping, tracking, and ultimately realizing value across the Information and Technology (I&T) portfolio. The Director partners closely with I&T leadership, Finance, and program sponsors to embed financial rigor into investment decisions. This involves actively shaping business cases to maximize value clarity and outcomes, maintaining alignment with strategic objectives, and ensuring that value commitments are fulfilled throughout the entire lifecycle of each initiative.

This role is pivotal in creating and maintaining confidence in CSL’s strategic initiatives by providing transparency into value realization. The Director proactively identifies risks and opportunities, driving actions that optimize the return on investment and maximize the I&T budget’s effectiveness. Reporting to the Head of I&T Portfolio, Program, and Project Management, the Director will serve as a key influencer within the organization, steering strategic investments and delivering actionable insights to senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities include partnering with I&T leadership teams to frame strategic investments with clear, measurable value and benefits, and ensuring that these benefits are maintained despite program changes. The Director also tracks and captures value from portfolio investments and strategic initiatives, participating actively in program steering teams and intervening when investments are at risk of under-delivering. Collaboration with Portfolio Managers and Finance is essential to validate that both I&T and business savings are realized effectively.

Transparency is a significant deliverable of this role, with the Director providing detailed benefits realization progress reports, surfacing opportunities and risks, and maintaining multi-year forecasts and value realization models. These insights inform both short-term and long-term investment decisions. Additionally, the Director manages the program VRO for strategic investments, including technology modernization initiatives, ensuring that value is tracked according to business cases and that transparency between programs and other I&T initiatives is maintained. The role requires close collaboration with stakeholders and strategic vendors, with the Director retaining accountability for value realization outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, Management Information Systems, Business Economics, or Analytics, coupled with over 10 years of experience evaluating investments and understanding value drivers within complex organizations. A background of more than 5 years in Portfolio Management or PMO within a global, regulated environment is preferred. Experience in Pharma, Biotech, or similarly regulated industries is highly desirable. Superior communication and influencing skills are essential, as is the ability to lead a cohesive, high-performing team. The candidate must be adaptable, an exceptional listener, collaborator, and able to work effectively across diverse cultures and multiple countries.

Key competencies for success include strategic alignment of investments with organizational goals, rigorous investment management practices to prioritize and assess transformation initiatives, value realization through continuous tracking and adjustment, proactive risk management, and a strong understanding of organizational change management principles. This role is instrumental in driving CSL’s continued innovation and value through technology and digital investments, supporting its mission to advance healthcare on a global scale.
