Job Description
SkyChefs is a renowned leader in the aviation culinary industry, with a rich history dating back to 1942. As America’s premier airline catering provider, we have set the standard for quality and innovation with a network of 43 sites across the United States. Serving millions of meals annually, we collaborate with leading airlines and retailers to deliver exceptional culinary experiences and unparalleled service at every altitude. Our enduring commitment to operational excellence, culinary artistry, and continuous innovation has made us a trusted partner within the airline industry. Beyond just food, SkyChefs embraces a culture where employees are valued as the core drivers of our success and are offered opportunities for growth, leadership, and impactful careers.
The Director, Transportation Operations Excellence, is a pivotal leadership role within our organization, dedicated to optimizing and standardizing the transportation functions that support airline catering across North America. This hybrid position, based in Irving, Texas, involves overseeing the safe, compliant, efficient, and timely delivery of catering services directly to aircraft. The Director acts as the subject matter expert in transportation operations and strategy, responsible not only for managing day-to-day performance but also for leading comprehensive initiatives that enhance operational consistency and excellence. You will be a key player in driving continuous improvement by introducing standardized reporting tools, dashboards, and best practices across the transportation network.
This is a strategic role requiring up to 70% domestic travel, ideally with candidates located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The successful candidate will work closely with transportation directors and managers across SkyChefs’ US kitchen facilities, aligning transportation capabilities with operational goals and commercial priorities. The role has significant cross-functional collaboration with operations, commercial teams, and airport stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration of transportation logistics with flight schedules and catering production.
As the Director, you will lead benchmarking initiatives to align internal performance with industry standards, develop contingency strategies for irregular operations and disruptions, and drive the adoption of innovative transportation management systems and analytics tools. You will champion automation opportunities with continuous improvement teams to enhance dispatch optimization and predictive analytics, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and productivity throughout the transportation leadership network. Your responsibilities also include mentoring and developing transportation leaders, standardizing training programs, and managing challenges that arise during new site launches and contract expansions.
This role is ideal for professionals with extensive experience in airline catering, aircraft ground handling services, or airport operations, who have a strong technical aptitude, leadership acumen, and a passion for operational excellence. Bring your expertise to SkyChefs and play a vital role in shaping the future of aviation catering logistics while advancing your career within an innovative and supportive environment.
