Job Description
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is a prestigious university known for its commitment to providing top-tier education in art and design. With campuses in Savannah, Atlanta, and abroad, SCAD aims to foster creativity and innovation among its diverse student body. As a vibrant institution dedicated to the arts, SCAD offers students not only academic excellence but also a dynamic campus culture enriched by various events and activities designed to enhance student life and community engagement. The university supports its students through comprehensive services that nurture both their academic and personal development, emphasizing experiential learning and active participation.
The role of Director of Student Events at SCAD is a pivotal position responsible for overseeing and managing all student events across the SCAD Atlanta and SCAD Savannah campuses. This is a full-time, 12-month salaried staff position based in Savannah, offering a unique opportunity to lead dynamic event programming within an educational setting. As Director, you will take charge of the entire spectrum of student events, from initial budgeting and planning to flawless execution and post-event analysis. You will be instrumental in fostering student involvement, promoting university events, and ensuring alignment with the prestigious SCAD brand.
In this leadership capacity, you will manage a dedicated team of student event coordinators and volunteer staff, coordinating their efforts to deliver outstanding events that resonate with the student community and larger audiences. Your responsibilities include working closely with multiple departments to strategize promotional activities that boost attendance, generate positive public relations, uncover sponsorship opportunities, and maintain cohesive branding across multiple campus locations. Your oversight will cover everything from logistical planning—site setup and breakdown, sound and technical equipment management—to financial administration, such as forecasting budgets, monitoring reports, and managing contracts and vendor relationships.
Further, you will ensure events comply with university guidelines and legal obligations, managing contracts, vendor negotiations, catering selections, and event security including collaboration with local authorities like the Savannah Police. Hosting production rehearsals and coordinating with speakers, crews, and entertainment talents also fall under your purview. The Director of Student Events will serve as an ambassador for the university, representing SCAD professionally to guests and stakeholders, and ensuring each event meets the high standards and mission of the institution.
This role requires a professional who is not only proficient in event management but also skilled in leadership, cross-departmental collaboration, budgeting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to manage complex projects and personnel while maintaining a customer service-oriented mindset. Additionally, travel between campus locations and occasional work during evenings and weekends is essential to meet the demands of the position. Whether planning intimate student gatherings or large-scale productions, as Director of Student Events, you will play an integral part in shaping the student experience and contributing to the vibrant life of SCAD campuses.
