Job Description
Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium is a renowned multi-purpose sports and entertainment complex located in Memphis, Tennessee, spanning over 136 acres. Initially opened in 1965 as Memphis Memorial Stadium, it has served as a pivotal venue for college football, community events, concerts, and various large-scale gatherings. The stadium is home to several prestigious teams and events, including the Memphis Tigers Football program, Southern Heritage Classic, AutoZone Liberty Bowl, and the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League. Presently undergoing an extensive $220 million renovation, Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium is solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for sports, entertainment, and major events in the region. This upgrade will enhance the stadium's capacity, infrastructure, and guest experience, ensuring it remains competitive and attractive to event organizers and attendees alike.
The Director of Stadium & Events at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium holds a pivotal leadership role focused on maximizing the utility and success of the venue. Reporting directly to the Assistant Stadium Manager, this position encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities including event coordination, parking operations, partnership engagement, and the logistical planning required to ensure successful stadium events. The role requires a strategic leader who can expertly balance operational oversight with community relationship management, partnering closely with local organizations including the Memphis Chamber of Commerce, Memphis Sports Council, Liberty Park, University of Memphis departments, and tourism agencies. Approximately 30% of the role centers on event and partnership coordination, fostering collaborative relationships with promoters, sponsors, and community organizations to bolster venue utilization and open avenues for new events.
Parking operations are another critical aspect of the position, accounting for about 20% of the duties. The Director oversees event parking logistics, traffic flow, vendor coordination, and safety collaboration to provide smooth ingress and egress during major events. Leadership responsibilities are substantial as well, involving direct supervision of the Associate Director of Stadium & Events and managing daily operational priorities, which takes up another 20% of this role. The remaining time is distributed between supporting event execution and stadium operations, ensuring that all events deliver exceptional guest experiences and operational excellence.
This role demands a blend of strategic oversight, operational expertise, and stakeholder engagement. Candidates must be adept at juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. The position also requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended event days as needed. With a focus on continuous improvement and enhanced guest experiences, the Director of Stadium & Events plays a crucial part in Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium's mission to provide world-class sports and entertainment experiences for the Memphis community and beyond.
