Job Description

Colorado State University (CSU), located in the vibrant city of Fort Collins, Colorado, is a distinguished land-grant institution known for its commitment to research, education, and community engagement. With over 34,000 students, more than 7,400 employees, and a network of 258,000 living alumni, CSU boasts an impressive annual research expenditure exceeding $498 million. The university fosters a dynamic environment where academic excellence meets real-world impact, making it a premier choice for students and professionals alike. CSU's athletic department, a vital component of campus life, operates several state-of-the-art venues, including Canvas Stadium, which hosts a wide variety of athletic and non-athletic events. The department is committed to providing exceptional experiences for both fans and participants while contributing to the university’s engagement and revenue goals.

The Director of Stadium Events and Engagement at CSU plays a crucial role in orchestrating the successful delivery of events at Canvas Stadium and other athletic venues on campus. This full-time position is responsible for recruiting, planning, and managing over 300 non-athletic events annually, alongside numerous athletic events that collectively attract more than 100,000 visitors each year. In addition to event oversight, the director manages premium hospitality operations on Men’s Basketball and Football game days, ensuring a high-quality experience for VIP guests. This leadership role supervises a full-time staff member and coordinates a team of student and non-student hourly employees, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Beyond direct event management, the director acts as a liaison for critical external stakeholders including CSU’s Facilities Management, local police and fire departments, OVG360 (a venue management company), catering, and security services. The position demands a strategic approach to contract negotiations with campus departments and third-party clients, as well as rigorous budget development and management to align with departmental goals. The director also supports internal executive engagement events under the guidance of the Assistant Athletic Director of External Relations, while adhering to a complex web of policies and regulations set forth by the university, community, state authorities, and the NCAA.

This position requires a seasoned professional with at least three years of experience in event planning or facility management, excellent problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations, and a knack for relationship-building and communication. Preferred candidates may hold a Master’s degree, have experience in NCAA Division I athletics, hold certifications such as Certified Meeting Planner (CMP), and possess familiarity with audiovisual equipment and social media tools. CSU offers a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $65,000 along with a robust benefits package designed to promote work-life balance and professional growth within a collegial and mission-driven community.
