The role of Housekeeping Manager at the JW Marriott in Detroit, Michigan, is an integral management position focused on overseeing housekeeping operations and staff to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of guest rooms, public spaces, and employee areas. This is a full-time management role with a competitive annual salary range of $92,000 to $117,000, inclusive of bonus eligibility. The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for leading and directing the housekeeping department, including related areas such as recreation/health club facilities and laundry services, to achieve operational excellence.

Responsibilities include managing daily housekeeping functions, coordinating with the Front Office to align work assignments with guest check-outs and room readiness, and maintaining an inventory of supplies to guarantee operational efficiency. The role requires developing and enforcing housekeeping policies, standards, and procedures to maintain high levels of cleanliness and compliance throughout the property. A critical component of this position is conducting regular inspections of rooms, public areas, employee zones, storage spaces, recreational facilities, laundry, garage, and grounds, ensuring all areas meet the company’s rigorous standards.

Financial performance and cost management within the housekeeping department are key priorities. The Housekeeping Manager supervises budgeting and supply ordering, monitors expenses and payroll within budgetary constraints, and educates the team on how departmental operations impact the overall financial goals of the hotel. Job Requirements

  • two years experience in housekeeping or related professional area
  • or two-year degree from an accredited university in hotel and restaurant management, hospitality, business administration or related major

Job Duties

  • maintain strong working relationship with front office to ensure effective communications for operational issues
  • obtain list of rooms to be cleaned immediately and list of prospective check-outs or discharges to prepare work assignments
  • inventory stock to ensure adequate supplies
  • ensure guestrooms, public space and employee areas are cleaned according to operating standards
  • ensure compliance with all housekeeping policies, standards and procedures
  • initiate and maintain an effective inspection program including rooms, public areas, employee work and locker areas, storage areas, recreation areas, laundry areas, garage and grounds
  • supervise and approve the budgeting and ordering of guestroom and cleaning supplies
