Job Description
Andaz San Diego is a distinguished boutique lifestyle hotel situated in the vibrant heart of the City’s historic Gaslamp Quarter. This landmark property first opened in 1913 to coincide with the World’s Fair celebrating the Panama Canal, and it has since been recognized for its unique architectural heritage and exceptional location. Overlooking downtown San Diego, Andaz San Diego offers guests a perfect blend of modern sophistication and historic charm. Its 159 art-inspired rooms and suites range from standard accommodations to loft-style suites featuring unique layout innovations such as spiral staircases leading to private cabanas. The hotel places a strong emphasis on a Californian-cool aesthetic that combines contemporary design elements with vibrant social spaces, including the largest rooftop in the Gaslamp Quarter, complete with a restaurant, bar, and pool. This makes it an ideal destination not only for travelers seeking comfort and style but also for those looking to engage with San Diego’s dynamic nightlife, dining, and cultural attractions.
The role of Director of Sales, Events & Marketing at Andaz San Diego is a highly visible leadership position vital to the hotel’s commercial success and brand prominence. This executive position plays a crucial role in crafting and executing integrated sales, marketing, and revenue strategies that enhance the hotel’s market presence and drive demand across all business segments. The Director is tasked with positioning the hotel as a leading lifestyle destination within both the local and global hospitality landscapes. Duties include leading a skilled, multidisciplinary team responsible for sales, marketing, and revenue initiatives, and maintaining strong alignment between commercial objectives and the guest experience. This leader will also embody the essence of the Andaz brand—bringing a mix of commercial savvy and creative vision to foster innovation and cultural relevance through partnerships, storytelling, and thoughtful programming.
Key responsibilities involve leading the creation and implementation of a comprehensive commercial strategy that includes sales, marketing, digital, and revenue channels, all aimed at exceeding revenue and market share goals. The role demands oversight of multiple sales segments such as group, transient, catering, and strategic accounts, ensuring proactive business development and strict adherence to financial and legal standards. The Director of Sales, Events & Marketing is also expected to oversee marketing efforts that include digital campaigns, social media engagement, public relations, content creation, and on-property experiences to elevate brand awareness and customer engagement. This position requires serving as a charismatic public ambassador for the hotel at community events, industry gatherings, and media interactions, fostering key relationships and advancing the brand’s market position. The role further includes developing and mentoring a motivated team, managing budget and forecasting responsibilities, and collaborating closely with operations to ensure a seamless guest experience. Andaz San Diego expects this leader to be adaptive, continuously evaluating market trends and competitive dynamics to keep the hotel at the forefront of the lifestyle hospitality sector.
The salary range for this role is $110,300 to $183,800, with actual compensation dependent on the candidate’s experience and education. Employment is conditional on legal authorization to work in the United States, as Andaz San Diego does not provide work visa sponsorships. The hotel is committed to promoting an inclusive workplace and welcomes applicants without discrimination.
