The opportunity at hand is with The Clift Royal Sonesta San Francisco, a landmark in luxury lifestyle hotels located in the heart of Union Square. The Clift is distinguished not only by its bold and innovative design but also by its rich history and vibrant atmosphere. It represents a unique blend of creativity, service excellence, and individuality, making every guest stay a truly memorable experience. The role being offered is Director of Rooms, a pivotal leadership position that requires a blend of visionary strategic guidance and hands-on operational expertise. The Director of Rooms will oversee the entire Rooms Division, which includes Front Office, Housekeeping, Guest Services, and Security departments, ensuring that all aspects of the guest journey are exceptional.

This leadership role reports directly to the General Manager and is a critical member of the Executive Committee. The Director of Rooms will play a significant part in shaping the department’s strategy, driving superior guest satisfaction, maintaining operational efficiency, optimizing financial performance, and ensuring full compliance with brand standards and legal regulations. The position demands a collaborative approach, partnering closely with Human Resources and other departments to cultivate an inclusive, accountable, and high-performance culture. This role is not only about managing day-to-day operations but also about envisioning and implementing initiatives that elevate the guest experience and operational workflows.

With a salary range between $120,000 and $140,000 annually, along with bonus eligibility, this is an executive-level position with competitive compensation. Applicants who bring at least 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience in Rooms Divisions, preferably in luxury or lifestyle hotels, and a strong knowledge of front-of-house and housekeeping operations will thrive here. Experience working in a unionized environment and a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or a related field are preferred. Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive Rooms Division leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of Front Office and Housekeeping operations
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated success in guest satisfaction improvement
  • Knowledge of labor compliance and wage and hour regulations
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Front Office and Housekeeping operations, with multi-department oversight experience
  • Proven ability to lead in a unionized environment strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in improving guest satisfaction, team engagement, and financial performance
  • Solid understanding of labor compliance, wage and hour regulations, and operational risk management
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred

Job Duties

  • Direct and oversee all Rooms Division operations to ensure seamless guest experiences
  • Establish and maintain service standards aligned with brand expectations and luxury positioning
  • Drive continuous improvement in guest satisfaction scores and service delivery metrics
  • Lead, coach, and develop department heads and frontline leaders
  • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and inclusion
  • Partner with HR on performance management, training, and succession planning
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and labor costs
  • Optimize staffing models in alignment with occupancy and business demand
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and revenue enhancement
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor laws, union agreements, and company policies
  • Partner with HR on investigations, disciplinary actions, and grievance management
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support a legally compliant work environment
  • Champion a guest-first culture, responding to escalations with urgency and professionalism
  • Oversee quality assurance programs, inspections, and brand audits
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure a cohesive guest journey
