The role of Director of Resort Activities at Montage International offers a dynamic opportunity to lead and innovate within the Resort’s Recreation Department. Reporting directly to the Hotel Manager, this leadership position entails managing all aspects of resort activities to ensure the highest standards of guest satisfaction and financial performance. The Director oversees a diverse portfolio including naturalist programming, guided experiences, children’s programming (Paintbox), corporate group activities, as well as pool, beach, and cabana operations. Additionally, this role manages gear rental services, community and vendor relations, and retail operations, orchestrating year-long programs that delight guests and members alike.

  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including rain, wind, snow, heat
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements, pushing and pulling, and simple grasping frequently, squeezing, overhead reaching and fine manipulation occasionally
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, recreation, business or related field preferred
  • Proven experience in recreation management or related leadership role
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in financial management including budget development and P&L analysis
  • Knowledge of hotel or resort operations affecting recreation departments
  • Ability to use standard software applications and hotel management systems
  • Effective communication skills including verbal, listening, and writing
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience in event planning and execution
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • Strong negotiation and consensus building skills
  • Demonstrated integrity and trustworthiness

Job Duties

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and management of recreational programs
  • Create and execute signature resort events for holidays, festivities, and special occasions
  • Manage all day-to-day operations including pool, beach, and cabana operations
  • Monitor quality and standards to meet guest expectations daily
  • Provide and ensure exceptional service per Forbes Five Star and Montage Standards
  • Lead supervisors, interns and seasonal staff
  • Schedule events, programs, and activities as well as coordinate the work of others
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work
  • Manage outside recreation vendors and retail operations
  • Order and manage necessary supplies, equipment, tools, and uniforms
  • Assist in the planning and execution of group recreation activities on and off-property
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to staff
  • Participate in performance appraisal process and give feedback
  • Work closely with meeting planners and coordinate training activities for employees
  • Develop marketing strategies for daily events within budget constraints
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security guidelines and OSHA standards
  • Foster mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
  • Maintain associate and guest satisfaction and take corrective actions when needed
  • Serve as a role model demonstrating appropriate behaviors
