Job Description

Tahoe Fund is a dynamic, impact-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the unique environment of Lake Tahoe. Established in 2010, the Tahoe Fund has raised more than 35 million dollars in philanthropic contributions, which have been leveraged to secure over 220 million dollars in public funds. These efforts have supported over 250 projects aimed at mitigating catastrophic wildfire risks, improving the lake's health, and enhancing accessibility and enjoyment of the region. The organization operates in partnership with more than 50 agencies and organizations, positioning itself as a funder, convener, catalyst, and communicator within the Tahoe Basin. Tahoe Fund’s team is known for being energetic, forward-thinking, and nimble, with a strong commitment to producing exceptional outcomes that protect and improve the Lake Tahoe environment for all to enjoy. The organization fosters a culture of kindness, teamwork, and joy in the workplace, emphasizing the power of committed, compassionate leadership.

The Director of Philanthropy role at Tahoe Fund is a full-time, exempt leadership position reporting directly to the CEO. Located in a hybrid capacity with offices in Incline Village, Nevada, the position involves regular travel within the Tahoe area, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area to engage with supporters and stakeholders. This role offers a competitive annual salary range from $110,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, a 401(k) match, and a generous vacation policy.

This highly strategic and hands-on role involves leading the organization’s overall fundraising efforts, including the development and execution of an annual fundraising plan with clear revenue targets and accountability milestones. The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for building a sustainable and diversified revenue portfolio that encompasses individual giving, corporate partnerships, institutional foundation support, planned giving, and digital fundraising initiatives. A key aspect of the job includes managing major and mid-tier donor relationships by cultivating and upgrading donor engagement through personalized stewardship.

The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO on transformational donor partnerships, providing critical support through strategy development, prospect research, and donor engagement management. They will also expand corporate partnership programs such as the Dollar for Tahoe initiative and oversee institutional foundation outreach, including multi-year cultivation and proposal development.

Further, the Director will lead efforts to engage emerging demographic audiences and collaborate with communications leadership to ensure effective and compelling fundraising appeals. Growing Tahoe Fund’s Legacy Circle and advancing endowment programs will also be a vital part of the role, securing long-term philanthropic support.

Event management is another significant component, with the Director taking ownership of the organization’s events to support cultivation and stewardship objectives. Collaboration with the Board Development Committee and internal staff will be essential to align fundraising strategies, maintain donor relationship management systems, and track progress towards organizational goals.

Overall, this role seeks a seasoned fundraising professional with exceptional emotional intelligence, relationship-building skills, and a genuine passion for Lake Tahoe. The Director of Philanthropy must thrive in a small team environment, balancing professionalism with humility while demonstrating a proactive, results-oriented approach. This position is ideal for a motivated individual who enjoys being active in the community and can represent the Tahoe Fund’s mission with warmth and authenticity.
