The role of Operations Director at McLane is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing various distribution center (DC) operational functions. This includes transportation, warehousing, facilities management, building layout, racking and systems, inventory management, and quality assurance. The Operations Director plays a vital role in planning, organizing, and managing projects and activities that support the DC’s growth, ensure compliance with quality assurance standards, and drive continuous improvement in productivity and service levels. This role requires proficiency in managing large, multi-shift operations, as well as the ability to develop and implement strategies aligned with overall business and supply chain goals. The Operations Director collaborates with corporate operations support to enhance service levels and key performance indicators — all while fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork. Job Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in all facets of the foodservice distribution industry, preferably in the QSR sector
  • accounting, planning, and analytical experience
  • preferred experience with Manhattan, AS/400 systems, JDE, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Access programs
  • experience with XATA, PeopleNet or similar programs
  • detailed understanding of financial statements and resulting cost implications
  • ability to identify financial issues and provide cost effective solutions
  • ability to use IT systems to generate and evaluate key performance data
  • experience with multi-shift, 6- to 7-day operations
  • management experience with large DC and driver workforces (around 200 employees)
  • ability to cultivate and manage relationships with customers comprising 1,000 to 2,000 stores and maintain high visibility with major customers, co-ops, and corporate customers
  • proficiency in English sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely

Job Duties

  • Participate in the development of overall business planning and supply chain planning strategies and develop explicit goals and strategies closely linked to the overall business planning and supply chain process
  • coordinate with Corporate Operations Support staff on strategies to improve service levels and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • provide leadership for the Transportation and Warehouse departments
  • communicate the status of activities and results on an ongoing basis, ensuring all affected location and functional interests are represented and addressed
  • develop or recommend alterations to procedures and best practices where warranted
  • understand, articulate, and execute all QA criterion set forth in supply chain processes
  • manage special projects as assigned by the position supervisor
