Job Description

Andaz San Diego is a distinguished boutique lifestyle hotel situated in the vibrant heart of the City’s historic Gaslamp Quarter. Renowned for blending contemporary design with energetic social spaces, this hotel offers guests a unique and sophisticated urban experience. Established in 1913 for the World’s Fair celebrating the Panama Canal, it boasts a rich architectural heritage that has been carefully preserved to provide stimulating environments for modern travelers. Overlooking downtown San Diego, the hotel is ideally located near some of the city’s most dynamic nightlife, diverse dining options, and prominent cultural attractions. Its standout feature includes the Gaslamp Quarter’s largest rooftop, equipped with a restaurant, bar, and pool that enhance the guest experience by combining relaxation with scenic urban views. The property comprises 159 art-focused rooms and suites. These accommodations range from standard rooms to loft-style suites that showcase creative décor, contemporary amenities, and unique elements such as spiral staircases leading to private cabanas. This emphasis on the Californian-cool aesthetic ensures that every guest enjoys a memorable stay reflective of Southern California’s laid-back yet chic vibe.

The Director of Operations role at Andaz San Diego is a pivotal executive leadership position that commands the responsibility of overseeing the daily operations of this upscale lifestyle hotel. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Director of Operations ensures the smooth functioning of the property’s Rooms Division—including Front Office and Housekeeping—as well as its front-of-house Food & Beverage services, which cover the hotel’s restaurant and banquet venues. This role demands a strategic thinker with hands-on leadership capabilities to drive operational excellence, optimize financial performance, enhance guest satisfaction, and uphold the brand’s high standards. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, design-driven, and guest-focused environment, exhibiting strong leadership to inspire and mentor departmental heads and supervisors. Furthermore, in the absence of the General Manager, this position will assume full operational oversight of the hotel.

The Director of Operations will play an integral role in partnering with other key hotel functions such as Finance, Sales & Marketing, Security, Engineering, and Revenue Management to ensure integrated efforts align with the hotel’s overarching business objectives. Guiding teams through a culture of accountability, empowerment, and service excellence, this leader actively champions guest satisfaction initiatives and promptly addresses and resolves escalated guest concerns. Committed to maintaining impeccable safety, cleanliness, regulatory compliance, and brand standards, the Director of Operations greatly influences the overall guest experience and the hotel’s success in a highly competitive hospitality market. The position offers a salary range of $98,400 to $160,000, reflecting a compensation package based on the candidate’s experience and educational background. This opportunity is ideal for professionals who possess a passion for boutique hotel management and seek to contribute meaningfully to a prestigious San Diego landmark with a rich heritage and contemporary appeal.
