We are currently seeking a Director of Learning & Development to join our team in Milwaukee, WI, in a strategic and highly visible role. This position plays a pivotal part in guiding the design, implementation, and delivery of comprehensive enterprise-wide learning initiatives. These initiatives support both property-level operations and corporate functions throughout Marcus Hotels & Resorts and Marcus Corporation. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, this individual will work closely with leadership at the corporate, divisional, and property levels. Acting as a trusted advisor, the Director of Learning & Development ensures that all learning strategies align perfectly with operational priorities and overall business objectives.

The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and has the ability to travel extensively (40-60%) to various company locations. A strong emphasis will be placed on developing and elevating talent at every level within the organization. The role demands creating and sustaining learning programs that resonate with Marcus' mission and culture, which is centered around serving people, creating memories, and delivering exceptional experiences. This role requires an innovative leader who can foster a culture of continuous learning, service excellence, and hospitality-driven leadership. The Director will be responsible for building specialized learning pathways tailored for frontline employees, operational teams, and corporate staff, with a focus on strengthening leadership pipelines, succession planning, and internal mobility development.

Additional responsibilities include designing and delivering a robust portfolio of learning solutions such as leadership development, service training, digital learning modules, coaching programs, and experiential learning initiatives. The Director will oversee the management of training delivery across multiple platforms including in-person, virtual, and e-learning formats, ensuring scalability, consistency, and measurable business impact. Integral to this position is the management of Learning & Development budgeting, governance, and resource allocation, alongside the strategic administration and optimization of the enterprise Learning Management System (LMS). This includes tailoring the LMS for varied business units, enhancing user experience, and providing detailed reporting.

Continuous evaluation and integration of advanced learning technologies and tools to heighten engagement, accessibility, and effectiveness is expected. This position also acts as a key leader offering regular insight and reporting on the health of capability development, leadership pipeline vitality, and readiness for organizational growth. The role offers a salary range of $155,000 - $170,000 annually and is positioned as an in-person role located in Milwaukee. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, education, business, or related field
  • Minimum 6-8 years of relevant learning and development experience
  • Proven experience in hospitality or multi-unit retail environments
  • Strong understanding of instructional design and adult learning theories
  • Hands-on experience with LMS administration
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to travel extensively as required
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in relevant software and platforms
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Job Qualifications

  • 6-8+ years of progressive learning and development experience
  • Background in hospitality, restaurant, retail, or similar multi-unit environments preferred
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and diverse training methodologies
  • Skilled in instructional design and converting content to digital/e-learning formats
  • Excellent facilitation skills for in-person, virtual, and e-learning delivery
  • Experience administering an LMS, Schoox experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and business writing skills
  • Strategic thinker with problem-solving and solution recommendation abilities
  • Highly organized self-starter with attention to detail and multitasking capability
  • Proficient with learning technologies and business tools including LMS, HCMS, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to design engaging and visually effective training and presentation materials
  • Willingness to travel 40-60% by air, car, or train

Job Duties

  • Define and lead enterprise-wide L&D strategy supporting hotel property operations and corporate functions
  • Partner with senior leaders to identify capability gaps and align L&D with enterprise talent and culture initiatives
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, service excellence, and hospitality-driven leadership
  • Build learning pathways for frontline, operational, and corporate employees while strengthening leadership pipelines and succession planning
  • Design and deliver innovative learning solutions including leadership development, service training, digital learning, and coaching
  • Oversee training delivery across in-person, virtual, and e-learning platforms ensuring scalability and consistency
  • Manage L&D budgeting, governance, and resource allocation including LMS strategy and administration
  • Evaluate and implement learning technologies to improve engagement and measurement
  • Provide leadership with regular reporting on capability development and readiness for growth
