Job Description
NoMad Detroit is set to become a landmark in the heart of Detroit, transforming the iconic Michigan Central Station into a luxurious lifestyle hotel that exemplifies the perfect blend of historic grandeur and contemporary sophistication. As part of the meticulously restored 30-acre tech and cultural hub, the hotel will occupy the previously unused upper floors, featuring 180 guestrooms and 30 suites with breathtaking views of Corktown, downtown Detroit, and Canada. Collaborating with Hilton, this first-of-its-kind U.S. property is anticipated to open in 2027 and will elevate Detroit's hospitality scene with NoMad's signature restaurant and bar concepts. The hotel pledges to honor Detroit's creative energy by incorporating local artists and makers into the guest experience, fostering a vibrant cultural atmosphere.
NoMad Detroit aims to be more than just a hotel; it will be a destination that brings together travelers and locals alike to enjoy curated wellness facilities, bespoke amenities, and immersive experiences that celebrate the city's rich culture, design legacy, and bold future. Elevated design and a true sense of place luxury will define the guest experience, blending the historic with the contemporary in a way that only a property in this iconic location can provide.
The role of the pre-opening Director of Human Resources at NoMad Detroit is a unique leadership opportunity to shape the human resources operations of a flagship property ahead of its grand opening. This position plays a critical role in supporting the hotel’s commitment to outstanding guest service and financial success by leading all HR functions. Responsibilities include overseeing recruitment, training and development, wage and benefits administration, compliance with labor laws, team member relations, performance management, safety programs, and ensuring a positive and productive employment environment. The Director will partner closely with the General Manager and leadership team, provide counseling and guidance, manage labor relations including negotiations and grievance handling, and help build a high-performing workforce while fostering a culture that aligns with Hilton and NoMad’s values.
Being part of a prestigious hospitality brand operated by the Sydell Group, the Director of Human Resources will ensure the hotel’s team embodies values of hospitality, integrity, leadership, teamwork, ownership, and urgency. This role demands strong leadership skills, adaptability, and a customer-focused mindset. The Director of HR will be instrumental in establishing protocols, policies, and traditions that support the long-term success and culture of the hotel while navigating the complexities of opening a premium property in a vibrant and dynamic city like Detroit.
Joining NoMad Detroit represents an exciting chance to influence the future of luxury hospitality at one of Detroit’s most anticipated developments. The role promises a dynamic work environment with opportunities for professional growth within a global leader in the hospitality industry. The hotel operates as a franchise, with employment and compensation managed by an independent franchisee, offering a competitive platform to make a lasting impact on the Detroit hospitality landscape.
