Job Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a leading nonprofit organization committed to driving research for a cure and addressing the challenges faced by everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). With a deep-rooted mission to advance cutting-edge research, the Society mobilizes people and resources to support advocacy efforts, facilitates professional education, and partners with MS organizations worldwide. Through its comprehensive programs and services, the Society aims to empower individuals living with MS and their families, helping them move their lives forward every day. Volunteering is a crucial part of the Society's operations, where staff members play an active role in engaging and supporting volunteers through effective communication, meaningful opportunities, and continuous feedback to foster mutual growth and learning.

This specific role is for a Director who will lead the execution of market-based Endurance campaigns, including Bike MS, a 1- and 2-day cycling series, and Challenge Walk MS, a 3-day walk event. As the senior fundraiser in the market, the Director will be responsible for achieving ambitious revenue goals by cultivating donors, activating teams and participants, and managing overall campaign performance. Although this position does not have direct people management responsibilities, it plays a strategic leadership role by setting the pace and standard for fundraising execution. The Director collaborates closely with the Associate Vice President (AVP) and coordinates efforts across the regional team to ensure strong fundraising results and outstanding donor experiences. This framework allows seasoned fundraisers to focus on strategic leadership and high-impact collaboration while supporting a scalable management model across different regions.

The role requires a market-based presence supporting the West Region's Greater Northwest Chapter, preferably located in Seattle, WA. It involves a hybrid work model with approximately 50% in-person engagement at meetings, constituent interactions, and events. The remaining work is conducted remotely from either a home office or a Society workspace when available. Compensation for this role is estimated between $95,000 and $105,000, depending on geographic location and career experience. The Society offers a highly competitive and comprehensive benefits package designed to support the well-being and growth of its employees.

The Director's main responsibilities include driving revenue growth for the Society's endurance campaigns by strategically engaging top fundraisers, local sponsors, and donors. This person will serve as the lead fundraiser in the market for the assigned campaigns, focusing on boosting participation, retention, sponsorship, and fundraising totals. The role requires customizing and adapting national strategies to fit local contexts and aligning efforts with regional objectives and donor trends. The Director partners with the AVP to monitor pacing, identify risks, and adjust execution strategies to achieve set goals. Cross-team alignment is fostered by coordinating frontline activities, reinforcing shared accountability, and supporting peer fundraisers. Effective use of CRM systems and campaign dashboards to track performance and inform continuous tactical improvements is also a key aspect of the role.

Candidates should have a minimum of four years of progressive experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development with a demonstrated history of meeting or exceeding fundraising targets. Success in managing donor pipelines, cultivating major gifts, and running multi-channel campaigns is critical. They should also bring strong leadership, project management skills, and experience in supervising staff or volunteers and coordinating cross-functional initiatives. Proficiency with CRM platforms such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce, along with data analysis skills for strategic decision-making, is required. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are essential to engage and inspire donors, board members, and community stakeholders. Additionally, candidates must be strategic thinkers capable of developing and implementing long-term fundraising plans aligned with organizational goals and experienced in planning donor events, stewardship programs, and grant proposals.

The National MS Society is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where employees feel valued and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. The organization supports employee growth through structured career development pathways tailored to individual contributor and leadership roles. Joining the National MS Society means becoming part of a passionate team committed to making a meaningful impact on the lives of people affected by MS and helping write the last chapter on this disease.
