Job Description
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to funding cutting-edge research, providing education, and offering support for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). They work tirelessly to drive research towards finding a cure for MS while addressing the daily challenges faced by people living with this disease and their families. By collaborating with MS organizations worldwide and partnering with passionate volunteers and staff, the Society creates meaningful programs and services that help individuals and communities affected by MS move forward in their lives.
This market-based role is located within the West Region - Pacific South Coast Chapter, specifically requiring the candidate to be based in and work within Orange County, California. The role demands regular in-person attendance at meetings, constituent interactions, and events with up to 50% travel, while allowing remote work flexibility from a home office or a National MS Society workspace where available.
The position of Director, Endurance Events campaigns, is a senior fundraising leadership role charged with executing two major annual fundraising initiatives: Bike MS, a 1- and 2-day cycling series, and Challenge Walk MS, a 3-day walking event. As the lead fundraiser in the market, the Director is accountable for achieving ambitious revenue goals by cultivating donors, activating teams and participants, and driving overall campaign performance. This role involves setting the standard for fundraising execution, partnering closely with the Associate Vice President (AVP), and coordinating efforts across the regional team to ensure alignment, optimize donor engagement, and deliver memorable participant experiences.
This leadership role does not include direct people management but focuses on strategic leadership, collaboration, and tactical execution. The Director shapes localized campaign approaches based on national strategies, tailoring activities to fit donor trends and regional objectives. The position requires high-impact activity geared towards maximizing participation, retention, local sponsorship, and fundraising totals through effective engagement of top fundraisers and team captains.
The Director utilizes CRM tools such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce and detailed campaign dashboards to make data-driven decisions, monitor progress, and adjust strategies to meet or exceed fundraising targets. Additional responsibilities include fostering cross-team collaboration, supporting peer fundraisers, and managing communication with donors, board members, and community stakeholders.
The role offers a competitive compensation range of $85,000 to $92,000 annually, with final offers adjusted based on geographic location and candidate experience. Employees benefit from an extensive benefits package, including a considerable paid time off plan, holidays, 401k retirement plan with employer match, commuter benefits, as well as comprehensive health coverage encompassing medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and flexible spending accounts. Moreover, employees have access to Spring Health membership, providing free therapy and professional coaching, alongside other voluntary benefits.
Joining the National MS Society means becoming part of a dedicated and mission-driven team committed to ending MS. The Society also supports career development through structured approaches such as Talent Portraits and clear advancement pathways, helping employees grow as people leaders or deepen specialization. The position is classified as Partner - Knowledge Expert, reflecting its role in contributing deep expertise and strategic leadership without direct supervisory duties.
The National MS Society values diversity and inclusion, striving to build a workforce that represents the communities it serves. The organization fosters an environment where individuals feel empowered to bring their authentic selves to work, recognizing that diverse talents and perspectives are essential to achieve their goal of writing the last chapter on MS.
Candidates are encouraged to apply through a streamlined application process, with options to include resumes, cover letters, and supporting documents. The Society emphasizes transparency and support throughout the hiring journey, encouraging interested applicants to join their impactful cause.
