The Director of Finance & Administration role is a senior leadership position essential to the organization's ongoing success and sustainability. Reporting key financial and operational leadership, this position oversees all aspects of accounting, budgeting, compliance, human resources, and payroll functions. The director serves as a strategic advisor and key member of the leadership team, partnering closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop and implement sound fiscal policies that align with the organization's mission and long-term objectives. This position requires someone with strong financial acumen, operational oversight capabilities, and the ability to manage complex compliance and regulatory obligations effectively.

Key responsibilities include managing financial resources, developing relationships with banks and financial institutions, overseeing cash flow and investment performance, and ensuring compliance with audits and tax filings. The director manages day-to-day accounting activities such as reviewing transactions, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and managing both accounts payable and receivable. Budget creation and monitoring are critical components of the role, requiring coordination with department heads and the CEO to establish comprehensive annual budgets and ensure fiscal discipline.

The Director of Finance & Administration is also responsible for overseeing legal and regulatory compliance, managing payroll and benefit programs, and administering human resources initiatives. This includes handling employee benefits, orientation, recruitment processes, disciplinary actions, payroll processing, and 401k plan administration. The director attends Board of Directors meetings, serves as the staff contact for the Finance Committee, and is responsible for providing financial insights and recording meeting minutes. Located in Lansing, MI, this role offers a hybrid work model with a competitive base salary between $100,000 and $110,000. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
  • minimum five years of experience in financial management
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • experience managing budgeting and accounting processes
  • knowledge of payroll systems and human resources management
  • excellent organizational and communication skills
  • ability to work in a hybrid work environment in Lansing, MI
  • valid authorization to work in the United States
  • high level of integrity and ethical conduct

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Manages financial resources of the Association
  • develops and maintains relationships with banks and financial institutions
  • manages cash flow and maximizes returns on cash assets
  • monitors investment performance and makes recommendations
  • oversees annual audits and tax return preparation
  • manages day-to-day accounting activities including transaction reviews and financial statement preparation
  • reconciles bank, cash, and credit card accounts
  • manages accounts payable and receivable functions
  • maintains asset records and assists with grant management
  • creates and monitors the annual operating budget in coordination with the CEO and department heads
  • presents budget to Finance and Executive Committees
  • monitors budget to actual results and provides guidance on overages
  • ensures legal and regulatory compliance including tax filings, payroll reports, insurance policies, and regulatory reporting
  • administers human resources, payroll, and benefits programs
  • conducts employee orientations, exit interviews, and disciplinary processes
  • processes payroll and ensures timely filings
  • serves as 401k Plan Administrator
  • attends Board of Directors meetings and staffs the Finance Committee
  • provides financial insights to the Board and records meeting minutes
