Job Description
Georgetown University is a prestigious higher education institution located in Washington, D.C., known for its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement. The university operates two distinctive campuses; the Hilltop Campus nestled in the historic Georgetown neighborhood, and the Capitol Campus, situated just minutes from the U.S. Capitol and Supreme Court. This location offers students, faculty, and staff the unique opportunity to engage with national institutions and participate actively in the dynamic political and cultural life of the capital. Georgetown University is firmly rooted in values such as intellectual inquiry, social justice, and community service, attracting a diverse group of remarkable individuals dedicated to making a positive impact on society.
The position of Director of Events and Alumni Engagement at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS) is a vital leadership role responsible for conceptualizing, planning, and executing a wide array of events that support the school’s mission and strategic goals. This role involves not only event management but also alumni relations and community engagement initiatives. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of External Relations and Marketing and working closely with both the SFS Dean and other leadership figures, the Director plays a key role in fostering strong connections between the school, its students, alumni, donors, and the broader community.
The Director is tasked with developing a comprehensive annual strategy of community engagement events, including complex, high-profile occasions throughout the academic year. These events are designed to enhance the school's visibility, strengthen community ties, and provide meaningful opportunities for the school’s diverse constituencies to connect and collaborate. Beyond event planning, the Director leads alumni relations efforts to cultivate a robust and involved alumni network. This involves creating programs that deepen alumni engagement, enhance their connection with the university, and support the school’s development efforts.
An essential part of the role is collaboration with various academic units and administrative departments within the school to provide expert guidance on event programming and logistics. The Director also supervises a team of Events and Communications Managers, ensuring that events run smoothly, align with the school’s goals, and reflect Georgetown’s commitment to excellence and service. The position is designated as hybrid, blending remote and on-site work, allowing flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the university and its stakeholders. The salary range for this position is competitive, between $66,783 and $126,720, reflecting the importance and seniority of the role in advancing the school’s mission and enhancing its relationship with key audiences.
