We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Director of Events to join our dynamic team. This leadership role is essential in orchestrating the seamless execution of meetings and social events by coordinating all aspects between clients, the banquet team, and hotel management. As the Director of Events, you will take a pivotal role in managing the entire events department with the goal of achieving revenue, profitability, and guest satisfaction targets. Your expertise will be central to developing and managing departmental budgets, forecasts, and operational performance measures, ensuring the hotel maintains its high standard of service during every event, including weekends, holidays, and busy periods.
This position involves building and nurturing strong client relationships through proactive communication, detailed event planning, site visits, and effective problem resolution. Collaborating closely with Food & Beverage leadership, culinary teams, Banquet Operations, and Sales will be a key part of your role to develop distinctive event experiences that align with client expectations and uphold Marriott's brand standards. Your duties will encompass directing various event planning activities, including VIP and themed functions, and ensuring all setups and banquet operations perform seamlessly.
Compliance with company policies, billing procedures, contract requirements, and information security will be critical in your responsibilities. Leading and supporting your team members to achieve exceptional service levels, account retention, and departmental growth is an important aspect of this role. You will also maintain meticulous event records and client files to analyze market trends and participate in relevant professional organizations to support business development. Job Requirements
- Minimum five years of experience in catering, event management, hospitality sales, or event execution in a luxury or full-service hotel
- Director-level experience is preferred
- Proven ability to manage complex events and multiple priorities
- Strong financial and budgeting skills
- Knowledge of food and beverage and banquet operations
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Experience with hotel management and event planning software preferred
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Qualifications
- Minimum five years of catering, event management, hospitality sales, or event execution experience in a full-service or luxury hotel environment
- Director-level experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience managing complex events, multiple projects, and competing priorities
- Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, pricing, and contract negotiations
- Knowledge of food and beverage operations, banquet services, audiovisual requirements, room set-ups, and menu planning
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with hotel property management and event planning systems preferred including Marriott CI/TY
- Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
Job Duties
- Lead and manage the Events Department to achieve revenue, profitability, guest satisfaction, and operational performance goals
- Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, revenue projections, expenses, and profitability
- Oversee event operations, staffing, and management coverage to ensure seamless execution of events including weekends and holidays
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, event planning, site visits, problem resolution, and post-event follow-up
- Collaborate with Food & Beverage leadership, Culinary teams, Banquet Operations, and Sales teams to establish service standards and create unique event experiences
- Direct event planning activities including VIP events, themed functions, special events, holiday programs, room set-ups, and banquet operations
- Ensure compliance with company policies, brand standards, billing procedures, contract requirements, and information protection practices
- Lead, develop, and support team members to drive exceptional service, business growth, and account retention
- Maintain event records, client files, and business documentation while analyzing market trends and participating in professional organizations
- Promote a professional image by maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, and guest service
