The Director of Events role at View Boston Observation Deck offers a unique opportunity to lead and grow the private events and catering business at one of Boston��s most iconic venues. Situated atop the Prudential Center, View Boston provides breathtaking 360-degree views paired with elevated hospitality, making it a standout locale for corporate, social, and VIP gatherings. The Director of Events will be responsible for driving revenue growth, developing strategic partnerships, overseeing the entire sales process, and ensuring exceptional client experiences from the initial inquiry to event execution. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in luxury hospitality, event venues, or catering sales. The ideal candidate will have a passion for delivering unforgettable guest experiences and the expertise to manage a diverse range of event types across multiple markets including corporate, social, nonprofit, and international segments. As a senior leader, the Director will collaborate closely with the General Manager and other key stakeholders to set pricing strategies, design event packages, and develop promotional initiatives that position View Boston as a premier event destination. This role also demands expertise in competitor analysis, event cost strategies, vendor relations, and team leadership. Additionally, the Director of Events will recruit, train, and mentor the event sales and catering teams, fostering a high-performance and service-driven culture focused on surpassing goals and delivering excellence. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in event sales, catering, hospitality, or luxury venue management
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets
  • Strong network within Boston’s corporate and social event community
  • Experience with CRM and event management systems such as Tripleseat
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, revenue management software, and ticketing systems
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects effectively

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, or a related field preferred

  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Strong existing network within Boston’s corporate and social event community
  • Experience with CRM and event management systems such as Tripleseat

Job Duties

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive event sales strategy to achieve and exceed annual revenue goals
  • Identify new business opportunities across corporate, social, nonprofit, and international markets
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of leads through proactive outreach, networking, and partnerships
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set pricing strategies, packages, and promotional initiatives
  • Conduct highest-and-best-use and displacement analysis between ticket sales and private events
  • Conduct ongoing competitor price and product analyses to ensure proper rate positioning and product offering relative to competition
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for high-profile and VIP clients
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with corporate planners, agencies, DMCs, and local partners
  • Represent View Boston at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions
  • Ensure seamless communication and handoff from sales to execution
  • Collaborate on menu development, service standards, and guest experience enhancements
  • Maintain strong partnerships with preferred vendors and caterers
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive catering strategy to achieve and exceed annual event cost savings goals
  • Build and maintain external catering relationships, networking, and partnerships
  • Recruit, train, and mentor the event sales and catering teams
  • Set clear goals, KPIs, and accountability standards
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and service-driven culture
  • Conduct regular coaching, performance reviews, and professional development
  • Leverage social media, industry platforms, and tools such as PartySlate to showcase events
  • Perform other duties as assigned by View Boston Management
