Job Description
Encore is a renowned global leader in event technology and production services, offering cutting-edge solutions that enhance experiences at venues worldwide. As a company, Encore specializes in providing comprehensive audiovisual, staging, and production support for a variety of events including corporate meetings, conventions, concerts, and special gatherings. With a commitment to innovation, customer service, and technical excellence, Encore has established a strong presence in the hospitality and event technology sectors. The company fosters an inclusive work culture that values diversity, continuous learning, and professional growth, positioning itself as a top employer in the event services industry.
The Director, Event Technology (DET) at Encore holds a pivotal leadership role responsible for spearheading revenue and profitability initiatives at assigned locations with venue revenue ranging from $450,000 to $900,000. This individual is entrusted with managing a small team of less than two full-time staff members, ensuring they deliver world-class service and uphold Encore's standards in event technology solutions and client relations. Reporting to the Area Director or Regional Vice President of Venues, the DET plays a strategic role in strengthening partnerships with key venue personnel while acting as a trusted advisor and escalation point when needed.
The role demands a multifaceted leader who can blend operational management, sales acumen, technical expertise, and customer service excellence to maximize venue performance. The DET is responsible for maintaining an efficient and profitable operation by focusing on labor and cost controls, accurate forecasting, and adhering to financial targets. Strong financial management skills are essential to oversee the location’s profit and loss, coordinate accurate invoicing, and ensure timely receipt of payments from venue partners.
In addition to financial oversight, this leader directs daily floor operations, including scheduling, equipment setup, and ensuring all audiovisual components function seamlessly according to client and brand specifications. The DET must also anticipate and mitigate potential equipment challenges, employing inventory control measures while prioritizing safety and quality standards. Collaboration extends to participation in venue operational meetings and coordination with vendors and other departments to successfully capture and service events.
Sales management is another critical facet of this role where the DET develops strategies to optimize per-event revenue through upselling, cross-selling, and value-driven proposals. This includes preparing compelling presentations, attending client meetings and site visits, and leveraging customer relationship management (CRM) tools to maintain accurate customer data. The DET also remains abreast of emerging technologies and continuously recommends innovative solutions that align with client goals and profitability guidelines.
Customer service excellence underpins the Director’s responsibilities by fostering strong relationships with clients, venue staff, and internal teams to ensure event success and long-term retention. The role includes overseeing event execution personnel and maintaining a polished, professional image aligned with company and venue standards.
People development is a strategic priority for the DET, who promotes a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement. This includes managing employee performance, facilitating growth through focused coaching and training, and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. As a leader, the Director champions Encore's core values including hospitality, ownership, and integrity, which drive results and build effective teams.
Physically, the role requires the ability to meet diverse demands such as extended periods of standing, walking, and lifting up to and occasionally over 100 pounds. The work environment is primarily within hotels and convention centers where conditions may range from moderately quiet to noisy, with exposure to outdoor elements, high-end AV equipment, lifts, and ladders. Flexibility in working irregular hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties is expected.
The salary range for the Director, Event Technology position is between $56,160 and $66,560, with compensation reflecting experience, location, and specific skills. Additional financial incentives such as bonuses and overtime may be available. Encore offers comprehensive benefits supporting employees and their families, along with a welcoming culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion. This position embodies a challenging yet rewarding opportunity for a dynamic leader to contribute to Encore's ongoing success and innovation in event technology.
