The role of Director of Event Services is based at The Oncenter and Empower FCU Amphitheater at Lakeview in Syracuse, NY, with an annual salary range of $80,000 to $95,000. This full-time, exempt position reports directly to the General Manager and plays a central role in the coordination and execution of all ticketed and non-ticketed events held at these venues. The Director of Event Services ensures smooth operational management of facility events, guaranteeing exceptional service and experience to clients, guests, and stakeholders.

As the leader of the Event Services Department, the Director oversees all facets of facility operations related to events, directly supervising Event Managers and Event Coordinators. This role includes managing the coordination with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) stagehand union for all venue events, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective labor relations. The Director monitors and supervises facility set-up, facilitates resolution of operational challenges, participates in event and facility planning meetings, and assists with departmental budgeting.

This position requires the development and enforcement of standard operating procedures for Event Services, coupled with responsibility for hiring, training, and evaluating team members to optimize department performance. The role includes organizing daily work assignments, promoting positive employer-employee relations, and coaching employees to reach their full potential. Conducting performance appraisals, recognizing high-performing staff, and addressing performance issues are also critical responsibilities. This leadership position demands operational expertise, strategic oversight, and strong interpersonal skills to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-purpose venue environment.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
  • Five to seven years of experience coordinating events in a multi-purpose facility
  • Three to five years related supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of facility management principles
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing situations
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors as required
  • Capacity to maneuver around the facility, standing or walking up to 8-10 hours daily

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
  • Five to seven years of experience coordinating events in a multi-purpose facility which services conventions, exhibits, trade/consumer shows, sales meetings, food and beverage functions
  • Three to five years related supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of the principles of facility management, services, and equipment for a similar facility
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Ability to remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur
  • Demonstrate problem-solving and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Oversee all aspects of facility operations related to events in our venues
  • Directly supervise Event Managers and Event Coordinators
  • Oversee coordination and management of the IATSE stagehand union for all venue events
  • Monitor and supervise facility set-up when necessary
  • Work with team members and others to resolve any outstanding issues
  • Attend appropriate planning, organization, and other event and facility meetings
  • Assist in annual budget preparation for the department
  • Prepare reports of monthly event activities for submission to the General Manager
  • Develop standard operating procedures for the Event Services Department and monitor their compliance
  • Hire, train, and evaluate all Event Services team members
  • Plan, organize, and assign all day-to-day work assignments for Event Services team members
  • Maintain positive employer/employee relations and labor relations
  • Assist with employee development and coach department personnel to work to full potential
  • Recognize employees who meet or exceed expected levels of performance
  • Identify corrective action procedure needs for employees whose performance or conduct does not meet required levels
  • Conduct performance appraisals
  • Other duties as assigned
