The Director of Events position at Hyatt is a highly visible and influential role within the hotel’s organizational structure, reporting directly to the General Manager and serving as a member of the property’s Executive Committee. This leadership role demands exceptional expertise in event management, planning, sales, and execution across various event functions, including banquet services and event setup teams. The Director of Events plays a critical role in ensuring that all event-related services meet Hyatt’s high standards of quality and guest satisfaction. This position requires an individual who is proficient in both the strategic and operational aspects of event management, leading by example and fostering a team environment focused on achieving both short-term results and long-term growth.
In this role, the Director of Events oversees the entire event department, including event sales, planning, and services, by coordinating with multiple teams to maximize event success and revenue generation. Their responsibilities encompass budget development, marketing plan recommendations, and the management of event goals to ensure property-wide objectives are met or exceeded. The Director is also responsible for coaching and training staff to deliver outstanding service, creatively collaborating with culinary teams on menu pricing, and maintaining quality standards for event setups. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or related field preferred
- Minimum 6 years progressive experience in hotel event sales and planning
- At least 3 years of experience in a senior leadership role within event management
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work flexible schedules
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations
- Willingness to maintain communication with corporate leadership
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
- 6 years or more of progressive hotel event sales and planning experience typically with Hyatt
- Service oriented style with professional presentations skills
- At least 3 years experience in a senior role in event sales/planning environment
- Hotel/hospitality degree an asset
- Must possess the following strengths high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability to improve the bottom line
- Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills
- Maintain communications with corporate staff
Job Duties
- Responsible for short and long term planning and the management of event sales, event planning, and event services
- Develop and recommend the budget, marketing plans and objectives and manages within those approved plans
- Maintain or exceed budgeted sales and profits in all event areas
- Develop and implement effective marketing plans for generating catering revenues
- Experience evaluating each piece of event business to ensure business can be properly serviced
- Monitor sales performance of event sales managers
- Ability to put together creative and innovative menus based on skills of the kitchen
