Job Description
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands encompass the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno, as well as a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. As a vibrant and growing organization, the RSIC honors traditional teachings and cultural heritage while embracing modern business practices and innovative governance. We employ over 300 individuals, including more than 150 tribal members, and foster a professional work environment that encourages talent, motivation, and career development. United in our mission to serve the RSIC community with integrity, fiscal responsibility, and a shared commitment to health, prosperity, and cultural preservation, we envision a strong, healthy community where individuals and families thrive spiritually, physically, and emotionally, building a foundation for lasting well-being and success.
The Director of Economic Development at Reno-Sparks Indian Colony is a pivotal leader responsible for steering the economic growth and sustainability of the Colony. Reporting directly to the Tribal Chairman, this full-time onsite role involves leadership in designing, generating, and administering a comprehensive Economic Development Strategy aligned with the Tribal Council's goals and objectives. You will coordinate activities across various departments to promote economic self-sufficiency, engage with potential businesses, negotiate leases, and collaborate with developers and contractors to ensure compliance with tribal ordinances. Critical responsibilities include reviewing business proposals, providing technical assistance to tribal departments, assessing land acquisition plans, identifying grant opportunities, and assisting with related legal work. This role demands a visionary who balances respect for traditional values with the implementation of modern strategies for sustainable, innovative development. The compensation for this role ranges from $135,408 to $164,444.80, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Joining RSIC means contributing to a legacy of positive change, fostering a vibrant, culturally rich environment, and making a meaningful impact within the Reno-Sparks community. We offer competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, and paid time off, ensuring our leaders are supported in both their personal and professional lives.
