Job Description
The Library Foundation of Hancock County is a prominent nonprofit organization committed to supporting and enhancing the Hancock County Library System. This foundation plays a crucial role in securing financial resources, cultivating community relationships, and promoting library services to ensure the continued growth and impact of the library in the local community. The foundation works closely with the library system's staff and community stakeholders to foster a culture of philanthropy and community engagement that supports literacy, education, and lifelong learning for residents of all ages.
The Director of Donor Development & Relations is a key leadership role within the Library Foundation of Hancock County. Reporting directly to the Foundation's President and collaborating closely with the Executive Director of the Hancock County Library System, this position is responsible for spearheading donor engagement, fundraising initiatives, and community relations. The Director will lead efforts to develop and implement structured giving programs, manage donor recognition and stewardship activities, and oversee data management systems to track donor contributions and engagement effectively. This role involves managing multiple important projects including coordinating high-profile events such as the annual Holiday Tree Gala, pursuing grant opportunities to support library programs, and overseeing the daily operations of the Second Line Used Bookstore, a significant source of revenue and community engagement for the foundation.
Successful candidates for this position will possess a blend of strategic thinking, creativity, and practical management skills. They will demonstrate strong communication abilities, an outgoing and welcoming personality, and a passion for libraries, literacy, and community involvement. The Director will serve as a visible ambassador for the foundation, building and nurturing relationships with donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community leaders. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management or related field
- minimum of 3 years experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- proficiency with donor management and fundraising software
- ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- strong organizational and multitasking capabilities
- availability to work evenings and weekends as needed for events
- commitment to the mission of libraries and community engagement

Job Duties
- Develop and implement structured ways for the community to give to the Library Foundation
- develop systems and processes for donor recognition and stewardship
- maintain donor records and tracking systems
- oversee the publication of the quarterly newsletter, The Connection
- serve as lead coordinator for the annual Holiday Tree Gala
- coordinate sponsorship development, donor engagement, and event fundraising strategies
- collaborate with volunteers, staff, and leadership on event planning and execution
- lead donor stewardship and follow up efforts connected to all events
- pursue grants to support the Hancock County Library System
- oversee the daily operations, vision, growth, and community engagement of the Second Line Used Bookstore
- coordinate and lead bookstore volunteers
- develop and implement creative ideas to expand bookstore visibility, engagement, and revenue generation
