Job Description

High Point University (HPU) is a private liberal arts university located in High Point, North Carolina. Known for its commitment to personalized learning, global perspectives, and fostering a nurturing community, HPU emphasizes student engagement through various programs and initiatives that promote academic excellence as well as spiritual and personal growth. The university houses the Hayworth Chapel and Religious Life Office, which plays a central role in cultivating a supportive and meaningful spiritual environment on campus. The Chapel's mission is to create a Beloved Community at High Point University built on three core commitments: helping students experience and practice belonging, encouraging individuals to become the persons they are called to be, and inviting all to behold the grace of God in every aspect of life. This mission underscores the Chapel's integral role in supporting the holistic development of HPU students within a multidenominational setting.

The Director of Chapel Programs at High Point University offers dynamic leadership and full management responsibility for the operations and programs of the Chapel and Religious Life Office. This is a full-time role that occasionally requires working evenings and weekends to accommodate worship schedules, events, and special programming. The Director oversees the planning and coordination of weekly chapel worship services, including the large Wednesday evening services, as well as special occasions such as Family and Alumni Weekend services and other unique programs. Administrative duties are extensive and include budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, website content management, and event logistics. A crucial component of this position is supervisory responsibility for multiple teams of student employees who support multimedia production, office administration, social media content creation, and seasonal devotional projects during Advent and Lent. The Director collaborates closely with the Minister to the University and the Director of Chapel Music to ensure seamless execution and high-quality worship experiences.

In this capacity, the Director must demonstrate unmatched attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills to coordinate workflows and various simultaneous projects effectively. The role demands critical thinking and creativity to develop relevant, meaningful, and engaging programs that resonate with today’s diverse student body while aligning with HPU's student-centered philosophy. Proficiency with contemporary technology, including website management tools, online design platforms like Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, and university data systems, is essential. The Director must also manage social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube to extend the Chapel's mission and presence effectively.

A background in theological education is highly desirable, with preference for candidates holding a Master of Divinity, although this is not mandatory. Event planning experience, hospitality management, office management, and multimedia competence are critical for success in this role. The Director should be comfortable thriving in a fast-paced, multi-event environment and possess the interpersonal skills necessary to build rapport and communicate clearly with students, faculty, and administration across various backgrounds and beliefs. The position requires occasional travel, including overnight trips related to pilgrimage programs, often involving student transportation.

Ultimately, the Director of Chapel Programs is a vital contributor to the spiritual life and community fabric of High Point University, charged with maintaining an inviting atmosphere that supports the university’s mission and enriches the lives of those it serves. The Director reports to the Vice President and Minister to the University, ensuring alignment with broader institutional goals and fostering the Chapel’s ongoing relevance and positive impact within the campus community.
