The role of Director of Catering & Events - Operations at Wooden Paddle is pivotal in steering the direction and execution of all catering and event-related functions. This is a full-time, on-site position offering a salary range of $100,000 to $105,000 annually, including bonus pay based on performance. The successful candidate will oversee a high-volume catering and events operation, ensuring that the entire process - from hiring and training to event preparation and execution - runs smoothly and efficiently. Key responsibilities include building and leading a healthy, high-performing team, managing logistics and staffing to guarantee that every event is well-prepared and executed flawlessly, and actively controlling catering costs to maintain profitability without compromising quality.

This position commands a leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, excels at problem-solving, and is highly organized with a focus on repeatable systems rather than last-minute fixes. The Director will be present at major events, providing real-time coaching and ensuring standards are maintained throughout operations. The role requires flexibility, as the schedule may vary according to the demands of catering events and includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be able to work around 45-50 hours per week, often handling multiple events in a day. Job Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional catering and events experience
  • At least 3 years of experience leading high-volume catering or hospitality operations
  • Proven experience hiring, staffing, and leading teams
  • Proven experience managing costs in high-volume hospitality operation
  • Familiarity with off-site catering challenges such as weather, space, guest dynamics
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or equivalent real-world experience
  • Ability or willingness to drive large vehicles including trailers and box trucks
  • Current ServSafe Manager and BASSET certifications
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Open availability including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work approximately 50 hours per week
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and endure long periods of standing
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
  • Familiarity with Total Party Planner, 7Shifts, and Margin Edge is a plus

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience leading high-volume catering or hospitality operations
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, staff, and lead effective teams
  • Experience managing costs in complex hospitality environments
  • Familiarity with off-site catering challenges such as weather and space limitations
  • Valid driver’s license with experience or willingness to drive large vehicles
  • Current ServSafe Manager and BASSET certifications
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to handle fast-paced, multi-event environments

Job Duties

  • Hire and train a high-performing catering and events team
  • Ensure all events are staffed, prepped, packed, and staged correctly before departure
  • Coach event staff in real time across multiple events during peak times
  • Manage labor, food, and operating costs without sacrificing quality
  • Develop and maintain operational systems and processes for catering and events
  • Oversee smooth execution of catering and event operations
  • Adapt and evolve responsibilities based on company growth and industry changes
